Your plane Looks Great TeeBee !! I have always like the J3 Cub and the simple look of it and i like yellow too LOL Let me ask what is the material that looks like plastic hinges under the wheel struts? and when applying the thin strip down the fuse, did you glue stick that on before ironing ? I have never done stripping and curious because if U apply heat i will curl on you in no time flat . thanks and glad ya'll are beeing safe .

Re: Willy Nillies Cub 250
Thanks getback! All of the black graphics were made of Monokote. I made a couple of paper printouts from a pdf file on the Willy Nillies site that had all the Cub graphics on it, including the windows. I cut out the paper templates for the windows and lightning bolts and tapes them to the moneykote with clear Scotch tape. Then I cut them out with scissors and scalpel blade. I applied them with the popular Windex method. Monokote is great for this method. Just spray a light coat of Windex on both surfaces and lay out the trim piece. When you are satsfied with it, carefully squeegee out the bubbles and let it dry a while. I then come back later with an iron on low temp to set them in place further. The Windex acts to activate the adhesion of Monokote(only this brand!). I always keep a couple of rolls of basic graphic colors like black, white, red, etc. on hand to make graphics with. Since the bear Cub logo was multi-colors, I just printed out the logo on a color printer, cut it out, used the glue stick to set it in place, and overlayed it with clear transparent Ultracote Lite to protect it, using low heat to set it. I made the engine graphics from covering as well but I was out of silver Monokote and had to some old scraps of Ultracote that would no longer stick down with good authority. I used a clear overlay of Ultracote Lite on those as well to secure them. Hope that makes sense.
The landing gear strut fairings were first siliconed to the gear wire. Then I did indeed use some plastic pinned hinges and silicone to secure them to the fuse sides. Just utilizing stuff I had lying around. I figured the hinges might allow a bit of flex. Not a pretty solution but hopefully they will survive a few flights. I may drill and add some tiny tie wraps to further secure them to the gear wire. Haven't decided yet. I also plan to install some smaller 1"-1.25" wheels later for a closer resemblance to the J3. I never intended for it to appear like a hopped up bush plane.
I will be very happy to see this pandemic come to an end!

Ya...speed ain't my thing! Low ,slow, and scale is. I just don't have anything smaller than .049.
I think your wheels look great! Maybe a tad bigger than scale but not disproportionatly.

Re: Willy Nillies Cub 250
OhBee, it's funny how we can get obsessed with things like the wheel scale on this model. Things that don't really matter in the big scheme of life.
I hope I didn't come across as being condescending in my last post regarding plane/engine fit. I don't want to be all authoritarian and believe we should all strive to find our own happy spots in life. I know the types of things I like and base my decisions on what I've experienced in the past. Others, possibly you, are seeking different results from this great hobby. With that said, if "low, slow, and scale" is what you're after, I wouldn't consider putting an .049 on a Willy Nillies Cub. A Minnie Mambo might fit that bill if you look into that design. I fly mine with a Surestart .049.

Re: Willy Nillies Cub 250
Thanks for going the mile and explaining that process for me . i have heard of the windex process before but was not put to me as good and didn't know it only applies to Monokote covering . I have used the inkjet clear decal print paper and it does a great jog from home ( you do need to spray it with a dope that will fuel prof it ,, https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1311.R3.TR5.TRC0.A0.H0.Xclear+decal.TRS0&_nkw=clear+inkjet+waterslide+decal+paper&_sacat=0 Its best to do a pritace sheet and you can use the write program it think it was to add difft. rescaled projects to it to preserve your pricey paper .

Thanks, Paul!
Getback, no problem at all! I did my printout on the cheap. I don't have a working printer these days and just used the one at my job, hence the standard paper covered with clear film. Turned out decent enough and the price was right.

Re: Willy Nillies Cub 250
Maidened the Cub yesterday. It was far too windy to try it but it had to be done. Control was difficult in the gusty conditions and then the Pee Wee bogged down a few minutes in, unable to claw it's way back upwind. Had to put her down in some tall grass undamaged. Pulled off one decent pass during the clown show. Looks like she'll be a sweetheart in calm conditions. Here's some Pee Wee flying to share:

Re: Willy Nillies Cub 250
The little Pee Wee engine finally decided to run properly and allowed the little Cub to play in the calm morning air today. Good times!

Re: Willy Nillies Cub 250
Nice flights on the Cub. What was the issue with the engine on the first run? I haven't received much feedback on the 3D printed backplates. No news is good news I guess.

Thanks a lot, guys! Appreciation of one's peers means a ton. No one else in my life actually "gets" what I do. They just see it as nerd stuff.

Re: Willy Nillies Cub 250
Yep. It was windy that first day and I had to walk it out far enough to clear the tree on launch. Threw it crosswind which didn't work out so well!

Thanks! Keep in mind that this footage is edited to show the "good stuff". There was a lot of frustration before and in between those videos, fighting with a stubborn Pee Wee, winds, etc. Persistance finally paid off!

All that frustration is what makes the good flights soooooo worth while!

I have been looking at the WN page for a couple days now,
Thanks for posting this.
Seems like they have some pretty neat options for some of my old engines just sitting.
