H.L. Super Sabre - As cute as Fred's new puppy
Cute! A word I don't toss around lightly.
But this thing IS cute. Sorry, you only get to see it in 2D, in 3D it's a stunner. No way it resembles a Super Sabre though, looks more like Germany's WW2 rocket powered Komet.
Careful packing is appreciated.
Hollow log for sure:
Just another "Clear" tanked SB Jr. though. Looked yellow in sellers photo. Looks like builder added a washer for a little "down" or air intake for the engine. I used to mount them flush after drilling a hole in the firewall/HL and poke a small hole in the bottom of the wing.
I'm thinking about adding exhaust vanes to the tail. Overlapping they will be difficult to do but will add authenticity and length to the stubby fuselage.
The F-100 has a mouth like a guppy. But doesn't look to bad going away.
A Pee Wee tilted to the outboard side and fitted might help gain a longer nose.
Arrived just in time, I'm finishing up this can of worms.

Re: H.L. Super Sabre - As cute as Fred's new puppy
Ok, so no one but me thinks that it's cute. So how about this...….
Toss the totally wrong fixed horizontal stab and elevator and replace with a stabilator aka flying tail as on the real F-100 by finishing hollowing out the fuselages interior and moving the bell crank from the wing to the inside of the fuselage and dropping the stabilator to the bottom of the fuselage rather than mid as present. Easy as describing it in just one sentence.
And...….and......I have been saving these caps off squeeze pouches of apple sauce for some yet to be discovered project. I think it would make a great after burner on this model adding length and detail. With a little thought, satin black paint, and imagination it might work. Despite the photos it's a really nice fit. Check the formation flight above.
Just thinking out loud.

…..Yeah, but is it as cute as Fred's new puppy. Ya just got to stop looking at the pictures. Read paragraph 2 above.
Breaking some eggs.
Engine is pretty clean but the glow plug is bad. Front end in the boil pot right now.

Put a plywood former for main gear in rear of log cavity (slant it to the rear like a Wen Mac P-63) and go tricycle LG with some ultra light pimp spoke wheels. Put the SBJ in your display cabinet and use a Pee Wee .020 with the three blade prop Cox used on it's 1958 RTF Super Sabre

Thanks Victor,
It came with a tricycle landing gear but positioned very un-scale like with the rear gear facing well forward. I will change that.
I'm going to up-scale it a bit to look like this:
But really the picture gives me a good reference for the fin and the position of the flying tail.
I do have a small 3 blade prop from a Fly-em Zero but doubt if the .020 will swing it. Probably will use this .020 with the existing prop.
Long way to go on this one. Several weeks probably.
Strip paint, sand, construct nose cowl, hollow out aft fuselage, construct flying tail/fin and bell crank, assemble, sanding sealer, silver paint and decals.
SBJr. cleaned up nice. Simple Green removed the paint over spray, tool marks on the burned out glow head can be spun out on a drill press but I have a #302 that I think is the proper replacement.
It will get mounted and displayed.
Fly-em P-40 is finished with a new balsa tail. Can't say much for my camo technique.

Even if the Pee Wee would turn the Fly'em prop, that prop just isn't efficient

See what you get me into Eric...………. A
Got the SBJ mounted. I generally use the prop that any engine came with to display. This one a 5 1/2-?? K with a sun burst. Used to know what that stood for. Spun the glow head on the drill press and used a jewelers file and 400 grit wet/dry paper to get rid of the tool marks. Took a pin and repositioned the coil and got continuity. Good for show, not for go.
PO did too good a job attaching the canopy, had to bust some balsa to get it off without damage, easier to replace than plastic. Better to position the .020 upside down rather to the side. Will build a guppy style cowl for it. Plans say .020 - .074
