Who's out there
Just out of curiosity, I had a look at our current Forum member list. I was surprised at how many people have visited in the past couple of days, but noticed that there were a number of names there that I didn't know, or have never seen a post from.
Well, I just want to invite those "irregular" visitors to our happy little discussion group to join in with the discussions. I know others here have encouraged people to tell us a little about themselves. It's always good to know where people's interests lie, what they do with their days, where they're from etc. Not saying you need to blab on as much as some of us do, but rather than lurking in the background (feels a little like we're being stalked ) it would be great to hear from a few of you. Just drop in and say Hi (or G'day ) so we can get an idea about who's out there.
Hope this prompts a few of you into action. Nothin' to be embarrassed about.
Rod.

Re: Who's out there
You ever go to the "Members list"...……
60 pages of names arraigned it seems in order of your last visit. After about page 4 names become unfamiliar as people drop out and move on. But on the last page there are names like Crankbder and Surferkris that are frequent contributors yet "last visit" shows as "never". Not a criticism, just an observation.
I enjoy going through it now and then. It provides a history of the forum and it's participation.

If you turn on "hide online status", it doesn't record your last seen times.

Re: Who's out there
I'm still out here. I mainly surf though, I lead a pretty boring life and don't really have much expertise to add to most conversations. I'm self-employed and don't have a lot of time to play. Retirement is just a few years away so hopefully that'll change soon.
Thanks to all of you guys that keep this forum what it is. I don't say much but I love listening in.

Yeah, I was going by memory and that's a 90/10 - 90 on the negative side prospect for me at best. I did not give that my full attention. Half the time here my mind is on something else. I'm counting on you guys giving me the "old guy" benefit. I don't know where the heck my eighty first year went. Time fly's when your having fun.

Even if you block your online status, the Moderators and I can still see if and when you are online. The system still logs it.

Re: Who's out there
All this hub bub about protecting peoples privacy is a sham, the big three (and they are not Government) know everything about you if your on-line. Throw the Government in and your life and times are an open book.
Got a phone call today, area code, local number all correct for my local. Did not recognize the four digit. Caller ID, I did not answer. Businesses, doctors, family will leave a message, go spoof someplace else. I made a mistake one time - Hello (my name) you need insurance...….. CLICK. Fool me once!

On this site I have only seen it used as a tool to locate members and such. It had been very helpful in that respect.

That's all fine and dandy. I too like to sometimes just sit back in the shadows and do some reading. As for not having expertise to add. That to me is no big deal. I am in teh same boat, and sometimes just like to ramble on and chat with others here. This is also a huge part of what makes this nice close knit forum so great! I actually feel like somebody here and have no problems with striking up a conversation with anyone, and so far everyone I have had interactions here with have all been great. Sometimes opinions will be different, but it is still all cordial 99% of teh time. Most of the time I honestly feel like the memberes here are more like extended family rather than friends!

I didn't mean I minded Admin and Mods knowing all but only certain topics are behind a login wall. All the rest is open to the world, if I Google Thimble Drome my own photos and posts show up saved by Bots.

I live a clean life, honest, law abiding, courteous, tax paying citizen. I hoped my government would protect me. Hospitals have all sorts of “hipa” patient privacy protection procedures ( to protect them). BUT after watching the Netflix documentary “The Great Hack” I’m left wondering.. What Do I need do to protect myself?

It’s a good true life drama!

Rene, What do you need to do to protect yourself??? ASK questions, if it don't sound/ smell right... That's a red flag. Talk to someone who knows the rights&laws. Clarity is what its all about, otherwise you get ripped!!! There are places you can go to for help.

Yes, yours, mine, Kim's and others show up frequently in my internet searches. Pays to be aware of what is in the background when you post a picture.

Yes, I totally agree with that statement. That is sort of why my pictures are usually bare and not much for background. Same goes for the social media thing. I do not post on social media that I will be away and leaving town for any length of time, nor do I post pictures and such while away on vacations. Again, same goes for any purchases. Do not leave TV, gun, computer, or any such boxes out for garbage day to advertise what you just acquired. Cut them up and bag them, or burn them. Call it paranoia, but just makes me feel safer.

Re: Who's out there
A few years back Dallas PD and Texas Rangers closed a gun theft case. Some fairly high value collections were stolen.Every victim was on vacation. a few high buck rifles and shotguns but mostly it was just just large volume in the cabinet or safe. Once one not wit was caught with a stolen weapon he rolled over and dime out the crew........more is a sec BUT think on that a bit...Dallas PD and Texas Rangers did not catch them on great police work...LUCK
The dude that rolled showed how they just used social media Mostly FB to see who was vacationing and popular gun forums to see collections and cool stuff in the greater Dallas area. Then just pay attention to the "We are going down to Disney the kids are so jazzed" postings....
Long ago the FBI did a study of my fingers in Black and White and every few years after---- then in the 80s a mandated DNA sample...I have no doubt in my mind that OJ Simpson crime scene prints and DNA was screened against mine. During any government security clearance, you have to divulge EVERYTHING you know about you, and some things even you don't know or remember....like how on earth should I know my third grade teacher on the island of Taiwan...They knew her, and at interview-- asked if I remember some of the foreign kids in my class...
I long ago gave up any notion of being an anonymous citizen...for me not possible

I don't do Facebook. This forum is the extent of my social engagement. So if I ever have any trouble, I'm searching out each and every one of you guys.

I got called by "me" once. I almost answered just to hear myself talking to myself.
Then I walked away from the phone talking to myself about "them."

When i got Bellsouth DSL internet many years ago it came with a email service. Bellsouth bought out by ATT and turned service over to Yahoo, Yahoo bought out by Verizon.
I get tons of spam so I block them, now they spam me from myself, I can't block myself. No way to reach any costumer service, ATT kicks me to Yahoo and Yahoo back to ATT.
No way to cancel or change password.
