rc rivets .02
hello, i printed out plans for the rivets rc airplane. it has a wingspan of 26'', it says to use a cox .020 peewee and has a rtf weight of 10oz. if i do build this airplane will it way to much for a peewee .020, or should i use my teedee .051 and put a throttle on my teedee?

Re: rc rivets .02
I was told the .010 could handle 7oz so I am assuming 10oz is within the .020 realm. Could you use an .051? Probably if you balance out the extra weight. It would also be a screamer and may be hard to handle. I would build it for a .020 pee wee first like the plans call for and go from there. You could also step up to a .020 tee dee for a little extra oomph without the added weight and the .020 tee dee can run an external tank for extra flight time. Just my thoughts. Have fun with it! Do you have a picture of one?

Re: rc rivets .02
Ahhh! I see now, thanks Andrew. Looks like it was planned out for a TD .020. So the Pee Wee should hang. I think the .051 is a bit much. Might I suggest a Sig Hummer? It's an easy build and a perfect fit for an .051. And it looks good IMO
I also noticed the plans say 10oz with equipment so with the modern stuff I bet you could knock a few oz off that figure.

Ron ---
The radio equipment was pretty sparse in these RO planes --- the Adams mag actuator was light and the RX was small. You might be able to get two channels at about the same weight or a few grams less. However, there could be some savings with a 1s or 2s lipo.

Trust me on this 1, teedee 051 r/c on a 26" span is a bit of a challenge to keep up with

It also refreshed my memory on rule #1 of r/c flying, always remember: no matter what, always maintain the thouht that you are the pilot, not just a spectator watching the cool or neat goings on.
I/E; you cannot just stand there like a spectator saying thats so cool and wow I love this plane, you must focus and work the controller and stick to your flight plan a little bit.
When your plan is to throrttle back after reaching a suitable altitude,DO IT! Full throttle lawn darts are not a lasting source of pleasure, but are way fun to watch for a fraction of a second, right guys
