Curious if the 1959 Aurora P47 is what you were talking about?
rsv1cox,
I just so happen to have inherited a 1959 Aurora P47 Thunderbolt with the Tornado .049 engine from my father. From what I could find on the web; the plane seems to only be missing the circular antenna and has a small crack in the plastic on the right wing (I'm assuming can be repaired).
It also had the four page manual (in rough shape so they are in plastic sleeves) and the handle with string.
I am not much of a collector, I would rather be flying my RC planes.
Is this plane fairly rare / collectable? I don't think I want to sell this, I would just like to know how rare it is?
Thanks!

There are at least two Aurora P-47's on ebay right now, this one
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Aurora-P-47-Thunderbolt/223865033501?hash=item341f65531d:g:bHcAAOSw1mZeJbXF
and another for $735 that has been on there forever with no takers.
They are rare, as are all Aurora control line airplanes, but those prices are way off what collectors are willing to pay. Something between $300/$350 would be more in line.
A lot of us here fly RC as well as CL.
Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for you response
I flew CL with my dad as a child, it is difficult to do so in the cities these days. We used to fly in the park, unfortunately anything with an engine on it is to dangerous now.
I appreciate your help.

Yes, I understand, @ttschida , since the lawyers took over, one can litigate on anything and for any reason, and we have too many busybodies today, who want to turn every established neighborhood into a "planned community".ttschida wrote:I flew CL with my dad as a child, it is difficult to do so in the cities these days. Was living rurally for past 30 years, so had more freedom and latitude. Kids could do things when I grew up in the 1960's now is considered parental reckless endangerment.
This is why I was glad to leave the Los Angeles area in the early 1990's, it was woke then, now worse.
Folks on the Stunt Hangar forum may be able to direct you to a safe haven near you where you can fly again.

Amen!! I was driving farm equipment at 10; working in the field alone at 12; driving a grain truck to the mill at 13. Today, my parents would probably be charged with child abuse and I would be in the Social Services system.

If I speak any further, then it will be Redneck Zone time.andrew wrote:Amen!! I was driving farm equipment at 10; working in the field alone at 12; driving a grain truck to the mill at 13. Yes, I hear you, Andrew. As a teen, I worked on a poultry farm mostly unsupervised with the boss dropping in now and then. He was teaching us responsibility, and we were expected to produce even unwatched. Those who couldn't didn't work there any more. I learned to work hard and fast at egg collecting, washing chain feed trough sections after the birds we loaded at night into transport boxes onto the farmer's flatbed for taking to the slaughter house. All of this was at $1.25 per hour.
Under 13 y.o., I rode my bike all over the neighborhood, without parents following me. At 11 y.o., I even after showing my ID to the Air Police (Air Force changed the name to Security Police because the airmen were calling them the APES! ), rode my bike unsupervised from the west gate at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS to the R/C model airplane apron near the hangars (then they didn't have near as many security fences as now), watched planes fly from my bike, rode my bike to the base hobby shop to look at model airplane stuff.
That is a nice one, but albeit a bit too much coin for my tastes.
- Just think:
- 10 years ago by the grace of the Lord, for under $400 I built this motorcycle trailer from a Harbor Freight kit and a Sears XCargo box removed from the showroom on clearance to make room for the newer models. Then got it titled and permanent plate at MVD for around $65. This trailer has the nice 12 inch rims, not the smaller 8 inch rim tires.
That Aurora P-47 with engine is twice the cost of my motorcycle trailer!

Re: Engineless Aurora P-47 .049/.060
Why I used a spoiler? I was deviating off-topic, and thought some may be offended by me drifting into why I'm a non-collector of expensive RTF's and other expensive modelling items. But, if I had the trailer filled with modelling items, then it would have been a different story.
