Differences between Texaco and other cox back plates
I have a couple of Cox Texaco and Texaco Jr engines that have a back plate in grey plastic, it seems far more brittle than the black plastic used on others as every one have snapped lugs on the tanks (what i did to them i am not sure... as not used since the mid 90s but they may even have been customer returns, i tended to just replace from stock and keep the returned ones for myself instead of trying to get sense from the UK distributor )
Can you still get the same back plates , I had a search on ebay and couldn't find them as a spare
Are any others the same size venturi etc?
Thanks

Re: Differences between Texaco and other cox back plates
According to the Cox Engine Handbook Delrin was used but it looks like various mfg of plastic were used. The grey does seem more brittle than the black plastic ones. Sometimes the color additives change the properties of the plastic. No more mentions about the Texaco backplates are made except the state grey in color.

Thanks
I have done a lot of plastic moulding and I would say the Texacos i have seem glass filed so they dont bend at all
I never thought before...Eventually I could get round to analizing the plastic from a broken one in the lab to see what plastic was used...just for a bit of fun.

Re: Differences between Texaco and other cox back plates
I found a video online once....then computer crashed and not sure were to find it again!
Somewhere I have a old video camera tape i need to convert of Aerobics flying indoors at Olympia model show in London back in about 1995 and a few other shows indoors such as Elvington airport christmas show again in the 90s as well, but needs converting to digital all the indoor flying was on TeeDee 020s...made a lot of noise indoors!
I am just building one here as trying to video kits for the website....I dumped most of the built models i had due to difficulty shipping to Bulgaria when we moved the rest are in a house in Liverpool still, so building new ones,
This week I built a Flutterbug, BuzzBipe , Rainbow 010 and a Dipstick 020...Next week its the Buzz batt 020 and Buzz 020 and finish the Aerobic 020
Im Trying various cameras on hat to film myself, may just use a cheapo ebay hat camera as its easier and may work better!

Re: Differences between Texaco and other cox back plates
I have 3 sports cams from ebay, I kept upgrading as the tech improved now using a 4k camera with a clip on adapter for ball caps under $100 bucks for 4k is a big leap in video for the masses. For sure we all here would really enjoy those 90's vids the simple solution is to play them on a TV and video record them with a digital camera even a smart phone will do, won't be perfect but will be viable. There is some disk software and plug adapter to USB that can be used to play those video tapes through the computer and record to modern format found on Ebay. From there you can save to YouTube it will be a most worthy offering documenting a important phase in 1/2A and most importantly when we are all long gone a historic most precious gift. It must be done you have an obligation to preserve all you can and who can should. This should of course help your site too. Please share your creations with us.
I was unaware of your site till today.
Some pics back when I was using a 1080P camera those are under $50 these days on ebay.
Still shot taken from one of my 1080P video frames 16" span TD .010 2ch plane.
Last video I took using 1080P / 4k camera requires a good graphic card on the computer. I use a 2G card
and a 4K monitor with a 6 core processor to watch them before that 1080P was all my old computer could handle.
4k camera can be set to lower resolution compromise would be 1440P as an example or 2160P helps too.
here it's 30fps / 60fps / 120fps I do not exceed 60fps to keep the file size down.

As silly as this may sound I have to ask. You feel that the grey backplate was more brittle than the black, correct? If so, is there any possibility that they were made from the same compounds that the propellers were made from. From experience, the grey propellers are more fragile/brittle than their black counterparts.
