Cox Engine of The Month
confused question

confused question
Are the Cox engines designed to go only one direction? I've noticed spring starters that can be right and left twists.
Any comments will be welcomed.

Re: confused question
First comment: :WELCOME TO THE FORUM!
Second comment: Yes, reed valve Babe Bee type engines will run in either direction.
So, depends on your design you can have a pusher or a tractor setup. Then you'd select either the "left hand" or " right handed" spring starter'

Re: confused question
Hey, Garry. Welcome to CEF, I'm glad you found us. This forum is probably the best source of dependable Cox advice and information in the world. Or at least in the English language, I wouldn't know otherwise.

Re: confused question
Welcome Garry.
The TeeDee Cox engines will run c-cwse, but
you'll have to install a left handed crankshaft.
As far as I know, Cox only made left hand cranks
for ,049/.051 TeeDees.

RE: Confused Question
Actually Cox made about 50 Left Hand crankshafts for the TD .020 according to Art Johnson from Illinois.
I bought many, many Cox parts from him at the annual Perry, GA model show including a Left Hand TD .020 crankshaft aforementioned..
I seem to recall that Mark B. knew him well from the Oshkosh kids flying circle and could possibly substantiate the qty made.
I haven't seen Art at Perry for several years now. Great Guy and 1/2a expert. Hope all is well with him..
