Re: Worth a try??!!
He certainly has a very inflated idea of what most of his stuff is worth, I wonder if he ever sells anything? But then, as they say, there's one born every minute, and there are lots of people with far more money than sense!

He also wants a very convincing $300 for some incomplete tether car wheels....
But he also sold this one! http://www.ebay.com/itm/370226147872#ht_2166wt_922

If he sells many tether cars for $7,000 a time he obviously FINDS the right pigeon sometimes!

Re: Worth a try??!!
Guys, I think he is trying to promote himself (or already has?) as a very up scale ‘high class’ merchant. Thus he will only list merchandise at grossly inflated prices to uphold/build this reputation.
Don’t laugh. This is a common ploy that works. For example, I paid $3.50 at my local jeweler shop to replace the battery in my Whittneaur watch. But on vacation in Florida I paid $35.00 for the same battery at a shop that specialized in Rolex’s.
Did I have the satisfaction of knowing that I had purchased the ‘best’ battery available?
No way, (I knew I was being screwed), but you would be surprised at how many people would happily pay the premium for what they perceived to be the ‘best’ because it came from the most expensive store.

This guy was selling hi-end tether cars a few years ago. ........he may still be trying to sell them. They were over priced and like stated he thinks big price, little reponse. There are several similar sellers on ebay like him. Not near as bad but same mind frame. Another sells used engines for more than a new one. I hope that folks like this get eaten up with ebay fees and their items go unsold.

Re: Worth a try??!!
Yep they fail to realise that of the item is worth the. Obey and people will pay for it it will go up.
Often I list things for 99 pence and they go up to over £150 my most expensive engine started at 99 cent.

Quite, they get the inflated prices because of the kind of people who equate price with value, or, to put it another way, have more money than sense!
These are the people who have forced the prices of old engines up to the point where they are out of the reach of the ordinary enthusiast, and of course sellers will charge whatever the market will bear, I suppose if I were a seller rather than a buyer I would be glad that such people are around!

Re: Worth a try??!!
the hobby would not be fun at all, if you had all the money in the world and could just buy
any engine nib. i mean, what's the challenge in that? i get excited, even over a babe bee
or a modern black widow!

Re: Worth a try??!!
Sounds like some of you chaps would slap government price controls on Cox engines.
What business is it of yours is the "asking price"? And who are you to advise a seller that is price is too high?
The market will dictate the selling price not those who howl in protest over high prices.
SHEEEEEZ!

Re: Worth a try??!!
Dave, I beleive everyone in this thread would respect your opinion of
what an engine is worth, if you decided to sell one. And if we can't afford
to participate in auctions with high starting bids, then I think we can at least afford
to make a little fun of the users who sell products that we cannot afford
Don't let it upset you, bud

Re: Worth a try??!!
Well said SD, I think Big Al's got it right, I've known of this guy for many years, he does move alot of expensive teather cars and yes he's full of himself and full of it as well, i.e. needing some Exlax.
Crying about what someone is asking for something is a lot like...and this really gets me, is when someone says, WOW they paid $XXX for that, thats crazy! I see it all the time when a collector steps up and buys a NIB Cox airplane or something and someone still living in 1960 prices, comments.

beez:
As the Brits would say: "If wishes were horses beggers would ride."
So what is wrong with a "free market" economy? "Ya' snooze, ya' loose"
(I won't have it any other way. Would you?)
