The teflon discs are a safety mechanism to prevent engine damage.

Under normal circumstances the disc should not fail but if you over-compress the engine or run it on 5" props at high RPM then, yeah, it goes "poof".

BTW, The Davis Diesel fuel is fine. Bob has plenty of oil in there.

Ether is the "power" of the fuel. Not enough power; engine does not run.

Actually not so.
The "power" from diesel comes from the kerosene.
The ether is just there so the kerosene can ignite because ethers flashpoint is 20°c I have run Ethelred fuel but starting is hard.the less ether you have the more "power" your engine can develop but it will be harder to start.
