Re: Diesel conversion
Diesels do not use glow plugs they rely on compression alone to ignite the mixture.
That nob is for adjusting the compression ratio.

Re: Diesel conversion
What do you mean by "a regular diesel"?
You can convert a surestart but some have trouble with crankshaft breakages in which case you would want a killer crank from Bernie.

Re: Diesel conversion
Oh.
It is up to you.
But I do not really like the type of head that comes on it I much prefer the MECOA style as there are no counter gaskets to deal with.
If you go with the one that is already diesel you should cut out some aluminium counter gaskets to replace the Teflon ones.

Re: Diesel conversion
However I cannot recommend Davis fuel as nobody knows what his mix is so who knows if there is enough oil?
Or the right oil?
Or for sure any oil lol only kidding on the no oil part.
Eric Clutton's mix seems best to me.
Or here is how to mix your own.

Re: Diesel conversion
I had a diesel surestart with regular diesel, not 1/2a. The choke tube had a restrictor on it. When I would throttle it down it would hydro lock. Never had that issue when it was on a tank.

Re: Diesel conversion
Regular model diesel or automotive?
If there is not enough ether the fuel will not combust properly at low RPM an the enema will flood and stop

Re: Diesel conversion
Sorry. When I said regular I meant not 1/2a. As in lower ether. It was davis. It slobbers like crazy. Especially my McCoy. So there is some oil. I hope to get a cylinder and piston with a throttle ring to try diesel with. Since it does not slow the engine down by lowering the amount of air pulled into the engine.

Re: Diesel conversion
When it is new it fits ok. When you run it for the first time it conforms to the shape of the contra piston.
