The Joe Nall Stunt Contest May, 2017!

The Joe Nall Stunt Contest May, 2017!
Well, in one more day the Spring contest season for me, will wrap. up. The forecast for tomorrow's event at Triple Tree Aerodrome is for pure stunt heaven. A mild breeze, hopefully not too mild, is forecast to be out of the SSW, so the Sun in the clear sky will be over our right shoulders. Not too bad, but I gave my dark wraparound polaroids a good warm soapy wash just in case. The Tutor is equipped with a new solid set of controls, flushed plumbing, bolts tightened, all pre-flighted and ready to battle again. Pilots' meeting at 9:00 am, Holley and I, bushy eyed and bright tailed, will roll out of Columbia about 6:00. So y'all please face the SouthEast and wish us luck. I'll need it. I don't think I'll have the help of fraidy-cat pilots scratching due to weather this time Lol. I benefited from that last May, but don't tell my Mom, she still thinks I'm the top expert. And it ain't in the records either, 'cause if you don't fly, you can't win.
I'll report in as soon as we get home and chill out.

Re: The Joe Nall Stunt Contest May, 2017!
Thanks, Guys
I'm still trippin' on the happy buzz. I made a good movie of my second and lowest scoring flight. It's uploading to the 'Tube now.
This was a great day to fly. Triple Tree Aerodrome, I would bet, has the nicest Control line circles and facilities than anywhere in the USA. This contest, on the last day of Joe Nall Week, is a remarkably well-run program and All about fun... in our competitive sort of way. Lots of modelers and flyers having a blast, and not a Jerk in the house.
I need to go back and check out their new education center. A classroom with rows of simulators, and whatever else, I have yet to see. I know there are a lot of planes on display including a whole lot of donated and purchased CL models by builders many of us stunt types respect and occasionally revere.
It was only about 64f when the contest started and overcast, with a light breeze. I got lucky and caught a lull flying first in the order of only three. So everybody was going to get a t........ pause... here's the movie. I'll finish blabbing later.

Well, I just got off the phone talking for nearly two hours to Charles Carter from California about flying and 20 other things. It's been a long day, I have more movies to to crunch, it's 1:00, and I'm hitting the sack. See y'all tomorrow.

Nice comeback from your injuries Rusty!! How many of those can you rack up before you move out of intermediate?

Congrats man! We're all so happy for you! You've earned this with all you've been through in the last year.
Re: The Joe Nall Stunt Contest May, 2017!
I don't think anyone belongs in Advanced until they're consistently scoring in the 470 range. And then you'd be squarely in the basement against those pilots. You can't go by how many wins at my level, because Intermediate is like Beginner for people who can fly at least an ugly full pattern. To belong in the next skill class, you should fly average scores from 470 to 500 with a little better equipment, and then, as I said, at 470, you're still a bottom feeder. My Twister would be a good entry to mid level Advanced ship. But I bet Derek could probably fly a 590 with it.crankbndr wrote:Nice comeback from your injuries Rusty!! Here's the Avanced Scoreboard:

Rusty, the Genesis that you were unsure of is a Bob Hunt designed plane. Bob designed the Genesis around the mid 70's. Bob has a beautiful electric powered model currently.

Re: The Joe Nall Stunt Contest May, 2017!
You're spot-on, Eric, this is a great group I compete with. I always improve, albeit frustratingly slowly, but enough to keep me stoked. Some guys hit the field running and blow right past me, like my friend Mike, but that doesn't get me down too much. I have to battle a lot just to keep going, and any inch forward makes me happy. Better equipment would have helped, but I fly what I've got, and I'm lucky to have the Tutor. When I get my fleet replinished, I'll hang it back in Watt's shop. It was a 30 year old historied ship when I got it and I'm glad to have added some more history to it. I love the support you guys give me too. It's nice to have peolle pulling for me.
I promise to finish my blow by blow stories of both contests.

Re: The Joe Nall Stunt Contest May, 2017!
I should've guessed as much. Bob always has such unique lines and shapes. He has more than a few that just make me say to myself, Boy, I want one of those! Thanks for filling in the gap.Ken Cook wrote: Rusty, the Genesis that you were unsure of is a Bob Hunt designed plane. Bob designed the Genesis around the mid 70's. The SV-22 was Gerry Glier's plane, and as it turns out was built by Gene Martine some years ago. It had meticulous lines and rivets penned on it, but the camera just didn't get it. Also, the Embry Riddle plane was a Brazillian pilot's. It was a self-designed take-apart. The Super Super Ringmaster was just a jaw dropper. Just absolutely huge. I never got to see it fly.
