So much for "big cube" IC engines.

The site posted doesn't seem to want to print as a link.
It shows a '72 Electric-powered Datsun 510 in Oregon turning the quarter-mile in eleven seconds then being street-driven home on the road with other cars. And this was in '07 IIRC.
Just waiting for Keith and Jaspur to "chime in" on this.

Yes it is nitro. Thank you. I remember then that car was first run in '07.
The owner claimed that it was the fastest electric street-driven car in the world. Pretty amazing that car that fast can be driven to the grocery store or the shopping mall too.

I wonder how "green" it really is. With electricity produced from coal (?) and batteries that only a last a couple of years at best etc....

That what I say.
I make up any excuse to use gas powered planes yet drive a hybrid

kris:
Yes coal and also oil. Here in the Pacific Northwest we use hydro power to generate electricity and it's relatively inexpensive.
Modern batteries last far longer than the old lead/acid ones but even they have improved.
We replaced the battery in our van recently. The original lasted seven years then it went to the recycler.

I'm more interested in non-electric stuff, how about a diesel driven mobile phone; Miniature jet

Re: The future of drag racing is "green" and not gas
what would be REALLY interesting is if they could combine the high power electric motors that they already use with
a specialized fuel cell, i bet that would make the dragster pretty light!
Li-FePo
Lithium-Ferrum(iron)Polymer battery

At least the replacement car batteries will be cheap, not the price the quality, probably nicads lol
But thats ok because what could that possibly hurt right
Who would want an electric car? They have been building electric dirtbikes for a while now,I never heard of anyone even wanting 1 , set aside from someone actually buying 1

Re: The future of drag racing is "green" and not gas
I doubt electric will ever dominate in the top fuel department. A Datsun 510 is pretty light weight compared to a full on funny car. I imagine within the next century gas powered vehicles will become scarce. I just hope it happens after I croak!
Until then I will continue to drive my 72 Dodge pickup everyday.
Electric has it's advantages but, it doesn't stir my soul......you dig?

I understand that too but petro-fuel is as thing of the past and not the future.
"Drill baby, drill!" - Sarah Palin - '08 "Drill where, Sarah?" I ask.
