Thanks Fred! It took your response to make my computer finally load the card that Rusty included in his first post!
I'm in. I may be a little wild-eyed since it will be following 'The Stricker Family Model Airplane Weekend' the previous weekend, but that is gradually getting to be my default appearance anyway.
I'll be packing my faithful camera gear and some planes for flying before or after the Classic if there's a spot for me to do so!
Now, to figure a course to Huntersville!
Retired and re-tired Kim

Samuel and I will get in late Thursday and be at the field early Friday morning for practice. And we both need practice, as with every May contest we haven't really had any decent flying weather yet and have only just gotten out last weekend for a few flights. We are rusty for sure. Combat should be a hoot since I haven't flown a match since Huntersville last October. i'm foreseeing some broken airplanes........We're looking at this as a tune up for Brodaks, which will be our first time. We can't wait.

Alright, for anyone who's never been, the Super 8 motel in Huntersville is the place to stay if they still have rooms. If not there are others in the area that take the overflow, such as Best Western. The S8 gives you a discount if you're coming for the contest, I don't know about the others. There's usually a beer and BS gathering at the S8 pool Friday and Saturday after sunset. Flying will be going on until it's too dark at Waymer field. It's about 6 or 8 minutes from the motel.
David B. Waymer Field can be found at:
15401 Holbrooks Rd, Huntersville, NC 28078
GPS: 35.401170, - 80.814600
Google Map:
https://www.google.com/#safe=off&tbm=lcl&q=waymer+field+huntersville+nc&*
Google Earth:
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.4039777,-80.816835,450m/data=!3m1!1e3
Super 8 phone: 704-875-1165
I'm looking forward to seeing some CEF folks there. I'm disappointed I won't likely be able to fly for you, but Mike Londke flies better than me anyway, so he and Sam will have to represent the CEF Stunt Team. Assuming I don't fly, I expect I'll be judging PA.
For any further info, like if you get lost, call me at 803-603-5532.

Re: Come one, come all! The Carolina Classic - You won't regret it!
I only have ONE (1) external trip to make this year
Fussing between Bladder grabber* (early Aug)
Brodak (early June)
and CC at Huntersville (early may)
Priority 1 : Most possible CEF members to meet
Leaning to Huntersville**...
BUT hate to miss LAST Brodak***
*Bladder Grabber Is a real fun to watch and help event ---- I met CEF member Duke and sons there a few years ago
I have seen it up close a few times so no big deal missing the 39Th running ----BUT I WILL Be there for 40TH contest... fer sure!!!
**Carolina Continuum has a large potential to finally meet some of my CEF heroes...Kim...maybe Ron, May be Ken Cook, for sure Rusty, surly Mike L and son Sam...hopefully Erik....yes butt head YOU...Plan for it--- YOU are too damned close to screw with your sad sack, poor me, no truck gas excuses
Seriously Erik...I already told you the DEAL....BE THERE BUD!!
***Brodak 2017 is a must do unless I get a sense there will be a Brodak 2018...

Well we'll get to meet you at one of them as Sam and I are going to both Hville contests as well at Brodaks and the Nats this year. The May Huntersville Combat event usually has a light turn out but it makes for a quick, relaxed day of matches. FYI we fly 1/2A on Friday afternoon. Most guys want to split early Sunday so we started doing that a few years ago. Special guest star-- Nats and Grabber Threepeat winner Ron Colombo will be there to bang around with.

Re: Come one, come all! The Carolina Classic - You won't regret it!
Fred mentioned October's Carolina Criterium, which is the larger of the two contests, and it's the one more of the long distance travelers come to, including the Philly Flyers with the Cooks, Dan Banjock, and other names you might recognize. I don't want to put anyone off of the Classic in May, but if you want to meet the most people, October is kind of a season finale and not competing with other spring events, especially Brodak. That being said, I hope to meet some of y'all this Spring. There's always the Joe Nall, May 13-20, and a C/L Stunt contest on its last weekend, and I'll be there on one or two day-trips. That's possibly the biggest aeromodelling fly-in in the world.

Awright...looks like May is coming together. I'm looking to check an item off my bucket list with a big loop out around Kitty Hawk following Huntersville. Gonna look up info on the Joe Nall event which I've heard about for such a long time, and see if I can check that out while all this traveling is going on.
Got a commitment on the 20th though, so will have to be back in Missouri a couple days before that.
It'll be great to meet up with some of you guys...GOT to get us a group photo!!!!

That's good to hear, Kim. You might want to look into preregistering with Joe Nall to make sure you get a campsite at Tripletree:
http://www.tripletreeaerodrome.com/joe-nall-week.php
I'll be up there on Thursday the 18th for the Judging clinic. There's also a stunt camp earlier that day. And if you're there for most of the week, then I'll probably come up Tuesday too so we can have some time to knock around at our leisure. Bring a fishing rod if you're interested in that sort of thing. There are a couple of ponds that aren't being used by carrier and float planes, and a river with a sandy beach, so if you catch some, maybe I'll fryem' up.
It also occurred to me that Watt Moore has a pilot bunkhouse over his shop, so if the Huntersville hotels are full you and others can probably stay there. It's an hour from Waymer Field. Might want to bring a sleeping bag, but that's what it's there for. And if you put up a flight at Watt's you get to sign the board. The bunkhouse has a bunch of racks for traveling pilots. I'll mention it to Watt.

Holley gets the scoop on what everybody does for H'ville, and she tells me there are lots of places to camp near Waymer field that some of our visitors like to use.

Great! I've become adept at finding level spots to park this rig...spent a lot of nights parked behind Cracker Barrel restaurants!
I'll have to be pointed westward by Wednesday the 17th to get myself home and prepped for a Fly-In in Fulton, Missouri that weekend.

Kim don't forget...Wally World has a very liberal parking lot RV use policy as long as you don't bogart "near the door" parking
Renie and I dry camped many nights in a wally world lot with the gen set letting kiddos watch TV as she or I used the REAL toilet....no showers
Dinner was from inside Deli... their various Chinese or Wing Zings (spicy) chicken stuff is usually pretty good... but the coleslaw or potatoes salad sux!

Okay, loyal readers, I'm closing this thread, as it was about the leadup to the contest. I'll be starting a new contest recap thread in collaboration with Kim, and it will appear tonight. Kim is fried from traveling and it'll take him a while to get the multimedia information ready for posting. But he sent me a primer of 89 pictures with which I plan to make a video slideshow. I'll work at it when I can. Remember I'm prepping for a contest this coming Saturday, as well as a judging clinic Thursday too, so my plate is full. But I'm feeling good, so adios amigos, see you in the new thread.
