US EBay amazing delivery
I know we Europeans are always complaining about US sellers on EBay, but just to balance things a little, I have just had the most incredible delivery from the States, 3 DAYS! I can't get stuff from ENGLAND that fast!
I bought a Wen-Mac from "bobnhelen1312" on US Ebay, it was shipped on 4th January, and arrived this morning, the 7th!
Beat that!

Re: US EBay amazing delivery
that's why I was worried about your engines, mail seems to travel pretty good between the UK and the states.
You never know about the mail system. Sometimes they work great. I have several good friends in UK and Down under. Takes about a week to get items to them. Dan

About how long FROM Australia to the US?. Kind of a vauge question and I realize lots of variables.
Contemplating a couple parts from there and have heard and read some horror stories on that whole down under system.
Anyone?

Jeez! It took 6 days for a engine to go from California to Minnesota! That's Quick! How much did you pay for the shipping?

Re: US EBay amazing delivery
Mail from North America to the UK is suprisingly fast, often quicker than shipping across our own country. We have had several reports of 3 to 4 days, although the norm is a week to 10 days.
We keep stats, insofar as possible, and following are our experiences for Air Mail packages shipped from Canada (average times):
Within Canada: 1 - 8 days
USA: 4 - 14 days
UK: 7 - 10 days
Germany - France - Spain Austria - Switzerland - Netherlands - Nordic countries: 2 - 3 weeks
Italy: 2 - 6 weeks (it's really hit-and miss)
Greece - Malta - Balkan countries: 3 - 4 weeks
New Zealand: 2 - 3 weeks
Australia: 2 - 5 weeks (again, hit-and-miss)
Mexico: 3 - 6 weeks
Costa Rica: 2 - 3 weeks
Other Central Americal countries: 3 - 6 weeks
South American countries: 3 - 8 weeks (Brazil and Argentina are what distorts the average to the high side)
Hong Kong: 2-3 weeks
China: 2 - 3 weeks
Polynesia: 3 - 5 weeks
South-East Asia: 3 - 5 weeks
Russia and Russian states: 3 - 6 weeks
India: 3 - 10 weeks (really hit-and-miss)
South Africa: 3 - 6 weeks
Japan - Korea: 2 weeks
Caribbean: 3 - 6 weeks

Re: US EBay amazing delivery
And how reliable is mail service?
In 2012 we shipped 6,004 packages and 26 did not arrive (a .4% loss ratio). Following are the worst countries for losses (as a % of shipments sent there):
Colombia (25%)
India (17%)
South Africa: (13%)
Argentina (9%)
Brazil (9%)
Russia (8%)
Italy (6%)
USA and Canada came it at the 0.4% average.
And the best ones?
Japan
Korea
Finland
Norway
Denmark
Sweden
Switzerland
New Zealand
Hong Kong
All the above with zero losses.

I got a cylinder from a fellow, who was in California, in three days. Across the country...
Re: US EBay amazing delivery
The problem with Colombia is not so much one of theft. I have visited Bogota and Catagena and would not hesitate to go back as the country is way safer than, say, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia; which I also visited..
The issue there is that the postal system was privatized to something like 5 different corporate entities which don't mesh well together. Also, the house # system is something else and customers are often expected to pick up their packages, rather than having them delivered.
To be fair, most "lost" packages were returned to us as undeliverable; not exactly a sign of thievery, although it often took 3-4 months for that to happen.

Re: US EBay amazing delivery
I've visited India several times(love it) and ship the odd package for friends
in Kolkata(Calcutta). They always insist on FedEx, and there's
never been a problem. USPS is fine for letters, but all bets are off
when it comes to packages.

Re: US EBay amazing delivery
Yes, India has an "interesting" mail system and courier service is the way to go. Unfortunately, it's $5.95 for Air Mail from here or $80 - $120 for Fedex/UPS/DHL.
The one advantage we have is that every Small Packet from Canada Post is insured for $100 by default and we split large orders into two or more packages. It's all good

Couriers will charge what the market bears.
It's no different with us selling Cox products

Not only couriers, I've just looked at an engine on US Ebay where the seller wants $31 to ship over here! Last engine I bought cost me $5.50 shipping. I don't believe that's the courier's charge in this case!

Re: US EBay amazing delivery
No, what that seller is likely charging for is Priority Mail instead of First Class Mail. That way he/she gets delivery confimation and hence falls under Paypal's protection plan.
IMHO it's not a good business strategy as it discourages international buyers (those are the ones that pay top $$'s) and aggravates the ones that do buy; prompting them to leave low DSR's for the seller.
The tendency is also to bid less in order to compensate for the high shipping cost, whereas the stigma of this shipping cost still remains. We have the tendency to remember bad things better than good ones.
In the end the seller gets less $$'s (the difference being paid to the postal service) and both buyer and seller are not 100% happy with the transaction.
