Cox Engine of The Month
Contemplating an .09 Rc

Contemplating an .09 Rc
How hard is it to come by a used .09 Medallion Rc these days? I'm not talking a new in box collector's item that I couldn't in good taste run fuel through. Just a mechanically sound powerplant. Doesn't need to be a beauty queen.

Keep checking back on E-Bay on a regular basis. Lately I've noticed that glow engine prices except for rare collectors have softened. (Most likely it is due to the proliferation of electric motor systems as glow replacement, plus I'm seeing glow fuel availability getting weaker.) Sooner or later, you should be able to bag the Medallion you're looking for.

I just hope I can bag one while I can still get fuel to use it hahah. I've seen some nice ones new in the box but would feel like I'd be cheating collectors by hanging it on the front of a model.

Re: Contemplating an .09 Rc
I wouldn't worry so much about collectors. Lately I've seen many engines being sold, that were obtained from auctions at homesteads where a senior passed away. Problem is that more likely than not, the next of kin didn't value the collection as much as the collector did, and thus off to market it went.
Once you buy its yours to do as you please. Personally I'd rather see it put to good use, because when one dies they can't take it with them.

Quite true. I personally would rather use them as well. I surely don't need any paperweights.

You spotted a good one, getback, with Cox throttle ring, too. A little plastic cleaner on the slightly Sun faded red nylon ought to clean it up nicely.

Re: Contemplating an .09 Rc
If I can scoop it up for a good price I definitely don't mind giving a good cleaning and some new gaskets if needed. I may desolder the extension from the needle valve as well. Too much weight hanging from the needle may not be the best idea. I'll see if I can land the fish before before I plan the dish though.
