It's interesting... I was exposed to Barbershop (acappella) singing through my dad, as far back as I can remember. He built and flew C/L models too.. but the singing hobby has been a life-long one for him. This is why music became more prevalent in my life, than building/flying models.

Barbershop Singing is 4-part harmony. The four parts are; Bass, Baritone, Lead and Tenor. A Barbershop "Chorus" is a group of several people, each having a vocal-range that best suits the part that they sing. Ideally the chorus will have close to an equal amount of people singing each part. A "Quartet" (four singers) will have one of each part.

My dad directed choruses and sang in competition-level quartets years ago. There were chorus and quartet rehearsals weekly. That's two nights of involvement/week for the fellas singing in a quartet. My dad handled the working-out of the vocal-arrangements.. which he did at home. He'd sit with his tape-recorder and pitch-pipe.. which he used to write each of the four parts down on music-paper. Quartet-rehearsal was usually weekly at our house.. so I got quite the exposure from the time I was a toddler, through my early teens.

Dad still has us sing a "tag" every now and then when there's enough "willing" participants at a gathering. A tag is a short snippet of a song, frequently being the ending few lines.

Yes.. you're right Ron! I was really psyched to see young people singing genuine Barbershop harmony when I searched for links to attach. Good stuff for sure!
