Tough choice, the solid but well worn Miata that I have been looking at for about the same price, or the Olympics. Had one once, sold it for a fraction. Actually, it is a tough choice. Or would be if I were serious which I ain't!!!!
I checked the sellers "Other items" to see if there was something I could afford. Odd fellow to have the Coxes when considering his other sales.

That Allison might be good for a P-51B control line project I'm thinking about....

Re: WHOA !!!! Be still my heart !!!
At least the 39 month payment plan is near the asking price
MY son and wife both hate it when a commercial comes on TV and I get into my RANT mode
Backstory... as a First sergeant with 140+ soldiers under my tutelage... IF any soldier failed to make good on a contract... I got the call from Higher headQuarters to get the wayward soldier in compliance...
You have no idea how many kids I counseled on BASIC MATH
Example... 47"~55" inch LCD Television of ANY brand can be bought outright for $399~$1290....Hell EVEN on a Sears Credit card @ 29% interest you are better off than ANY RENT TO OWN place....
I you pay real close attention to something like a AARONS RENTS commercials..it is ONLY $17.99 per week for 36 months.... PLeas Pleas Pleas do the friggin math!!!
52 week per year
36 months= 156 payments of
17.99 per week
Come on fellows... is $2500+ really a good deal ???? for ANY mediocre TV
OK Rant mode OFF

Yeah, unfortunately, that lesson is usually aimed at a lost cause.
My last wife would gladly pay you 40 grand for a 5 thousand dollar car, as long as you stretched out the payments, and think herself pretty shrewd while doing it.
When she skipped out with one of my buddies, I was fairly psychotic for a while, but now figure I owe the guy a full beer truck load of thanks !

Re: WHOA !!!! Be still my heart !!!
KIm, my brother...did you marry/ inherit my first wife....??
Too funny
Upon the divorce..I was on the hook for about a decade of that exact same buying mantra (while I was absent) and fatal error of FULL POWER OF ATTORNEY to my spouse while I was deployed
I swear this is not made up...yesterday I had to strongly counsel my daughter and give her a mathematics lesson ( she is college grad BTW)
The gifted car I gave her was totaled and she got a reasonable insurance settlement.. Sperm donor to my grandson... found a 2014 SUV for the low low price of $24 K and only 18.99% interest for only 72 months...
It took me 6 phone conversations to have her and the IdIot figure out the Actual cost to ever really OWN that car.... and each time I mentioned the cost of fuel, tires, oil, filters they could NOT grasp the notion about the REAL Cost to OWN a car
I went so far as to send her a comparison where a Thrifty rent a car at $21 per day was cheaper

Where is that "rant" switch?
Ever read a car "buy here pay here" paperwork? I did for a relation.
First line price of car
second line 100% finance charge
near usury interest rate, probably 18-24%
Then you pay weekly and there is a punishment for late payments, pretty strong too something like a full payment. The deal ends up on a $5000 10 year old POS with low rust the weekly payment is around $125 for 3 years. That $5000 car is under a note for $10,000 AS SOON AS THE PAPERWORK IS SIGNED and will cost around $20,000 when paid off! (I did not run the exact numbers this is from memory of several years ago)
and if it breaks the buyer is on the hook for repairs. The car is probably a lemon (I speak from dealing with this family member on 2 cars now from the same place ) so chances are it will need a major repair in the note period. I guarantee it will need tires and brakes in the first few months.
New car payments on a nice basic car are similar at around $500/month for 5 years. Leases are about half for 3 years. A reputable used car dealer or a traditional note on a used car will still have a large interest rate, likely 12%-15% but the finance charge will be at most $100 per $5000 borrowed, which is the smallest note anybody would write when I was last in the market and needing a note.
I feel better now too.

Oh Yeah! It's a hoot now...the financing deal she had signed for was super-low payments for 4 years, then financing the remaining (huge) balance again!
Her retort to my calling it crazy was, "Well, they call it 'Smart Buy'!!!"
A guy has just GOT to be able to laugh !!

Lord, you guys make me feel good, and unintentionally of course. And while I feel compassion for your unfortunate wifely experiences I regret that the first time around just never worked out. I hope that your subsequent marriage(s) faired better.
As most here know, I got lucky. Home town girl prettiest in school graduated near the top of her class marries ignorant ne'er do well. And to think that I almost let her go.
There was no proposal, she merely said - We are going to get married, I have it all worked out. And she had. Boot camp leave, her brother-in-law and sister drove us down to Myrtle Beach (no blood test) South Carolina where we stood before a Judge and got hitched. Apologies to those that have read this as posted here before.
It didn't take me long to wise up settle down and work hard to earn the gift that she had given me. I spent the next 58 years and 9 months trying to pay her back, maybe not quite fulfilling that goal.

Been there.. got the t-shirts. Other than my four beautiful children; the t-shirts are about all I'd got. There's nothing like a "loss" to make you appreciate the things you have. I'm a hoarder now.
What's a fair price on those two Olympics anyways? While we're bearing our souls...

$400 bucks an engine is all the $$ and then some.. IMHO.. but beauty "is" in the eyes of the beholder... and maybe the fool..
Re: WHOA !!!! Be still my heart !!!
The boxes are not good on those but a nice box Olympic could bring 250$ up to 300$ or so.
They won't sell for that with the damaged boxes.

I'd bid if I had $$$ to burn.. but I don't. Vintage NIB Cox engines seem to be increasing in value though. Problem is..... it's us old #u(x who remember them. To hand-down such things requires a good mentoring of young'uns. Who else will remember them'?

I don't think you can count on mentoring...they'll either have the 'spark' or not. My cousin Bobby and I grew up flying model airplanes, but those magic names like Ringmaster and Shoestring and Buster mean nothing to him now.
I've been constantly amazed at what people will spend on stuff like jewelry and other ego-fluffing items. No knowledge, no training, no skill...just 'presenting' like critters on the nature channel. Got a REAL dose of reality when I set out to buy a complete Nail Salon Package for a woman I was dating...let's just say that my 40 bucks didn't scratch the surface !!!!
I'll take my silly pursuits over that any day.

Agreed. The bottoms are the weak link in the packaging. I thought at least he was honest enough to include a picture.
While the blister on my Space Bug Jr. bought by me sometime around 1954 is in good shape the bottom plastic is in shambles.
