UMX Beast charging questions? Empty UMX Beast charging questions?

Post  Ziimzy Mon Dec 26, 2011 1:47 pm

Hey so for christmas i got my lovely UMX Beast 3D and it looks lovely Very Happy I bought my battery from overlander http://www.overlander.co.uk/eflite-umx-beast-type-lipo-battery.html and it fits perfectly in the beast but it annoyingly doesn't fit in my old art-tech charger! For some reason the batteries for the beast and other UMX products don't fit normal 2 cell chargers... So i spent £30 for a whole new charger and it came with another battery. Anyway to the point... The charger http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFLUC1007 is recommended to use with a 12V DC 1.5 Amp power supply like this one: http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFLC4000 So would it work with a 12.0V 1.25 Amp "AC Adapter"? I can upload a picture of it if you want. Im sorry but I'm really n00by at the whole charger and battery thing (and RC to be honest lol Very Happy) So please help me Smile

Thanks,

Ziim

Ziim --
There are a couple of things to consider. The manual that shipped with your charger does not indicate the needed polarity on the charge plug, i.e., is the center post DC positive or negative. If you have another adapter that you can use, the polarity and plug size must match the jack in your charger.

Secondly, Li-Po's are usually charged at 1C for best longevity. This means that the charge rate matches the listed capacity of the battery. The battery that shipped with your charger is 120 mAh; the one you bought separately is 200 mAh. But in either case, the charger does not appear to have a charge setting -- this means that the charging rate is set internally and may range from 120 to 240 ma. Normally, fixed charge rates are conservative, so it is probably on the low side. What does this have to do with selecting a power supply? Probably, your AC adapter will be sufficient, but if the internal charge rate is set to a higher value, your charge times will be longer simply because your adapter does not have a sufficient current rating to support the higher rate.

Assuming that your AC adapter plug matches both in size and polarity (hard to determine without metering the eFlite charger), it should be sufficient.

Oh god I just spent about 10 minutes typing out a message on my phone to find that it never sent -_-. Any way thanks Andrew and Indra for the reply Very Happy

If i understood correctly you are saying that if the plug fits it should work, and if it does not fit i found a 12V 1.3 A power supply with the same size plug and size but a slightly different inside (I'm assuming this one is the opposite poll to the other). And the battery that comes with the charger is 200 mah and should be identical to the other. http://www.kingslynnmodelshop.co.uk/Batteries_&_Chargers-Chargers/c66_76/p3682/Celectra_2S_7.4volt_DC_LiPo_Charger_+_200mah_7.4v_Lipo/product_info.html I don't really mind about charge times at all, i just want something that will charge it Very Happy Thanks again,

Not entirely. Even though the plug may have the same dimensions, the polarity may differ. We refer to these as center positive and center negative. Your adapter should have a graphic on it indicating the polarity. Your charger may also have a graphic specifying the required type of power plug.

The graphic below designates a center positive plug or a center positive jack on the charger. Center negative would have the signs reversed. They must be the same on the adapter and charger to function.
