Seems that my Uncle owned an Irvine, but I don't remember any details. Have you tried googling it to see if a manual is listed?

Sorry Mitch,
I just figured out that it was an Irvine Carb on one of my Uncle's engines. Hope you can get some info on your engine...with the pool of talent here, it's got to be just a matter of a few posts before someone can provide some facts for you.
Later ! Kim

From what I know/read/heard the Irvine is a pretty nice engine, lots of power, good quality control, etc. If it’s a low time engine it might be a deal for you.
No connection other then name, just a side note: back in the early eighties I had a Irvine .40 (much like a a O.S. .40FSR) with a Irvine tuned pipe/muffler in a Kaos .40, great set-up, but the plastic Perry knock-off carb. developed a air leak, leaned out the engine in flight, came in dead stick with the prop free wheeling...the piston ring was totally worn-out!

I think that type would be an "ABC" engine.
Re: new engine, can people tell me about it?
If you'd smell anything it would be oil residue, I don't think you can smell nitro residue as there really wouldn't be any.
You can quickly look at a engine to see if it's used: Any marks on prop nut? Any sign of screw marks on mounting holes? Look into exhaust, is the piston totally clean, remove plug and look at piston top with light, sometimes used engines will look clean but have slight burn on piston top. ABC is Aluminum piston, Chrome Brass plated steel sleeve, also ABN, nickel and AAC Aluminum piston Aluminum sleeve. If it has a ring it would not mention it as ABC, ABN, etc.. I think most engines now days are ABN or ABC.
Merry Christmas

A good buy for a great price Mitch
Irvine are fairly ubiquitous over here.
The fundamental difference between the
MK2 is made in England black carb and MK3
made by OS. Mk2 poss a little more powerful but
Carb a little more tempramental (can leak air slightly)
And require fuel tube o ring over end of needle.
But both cracking motors we have a mk2 in our
Very much used and abused club trainers. Run on
Every thing from 5% to 30% prob had in excess of
40 gallons through it and just about nicely run in.
Very easy to live with.
J
Ps
If you ever see a .53 tear the vendors arms off to get
It. More powerful than my more expensive OS55Ax

Irvines are great I briefly had one and it was a diesel versions and the throttle response was great.
Very well made true English engines well my one was.

A new engine for $20,,can't beat that.
Was just going to post that it looks like OS case webbing.
I put 42 gallons thru a OS 12 offroad before it lost all it's Mojo. Rod was stretched,,would run backwards real nice. Got a good one there, punished the heck out of it.

IIRC, Irvine engines were imported and sold for a number of years by SIG Manufacturing.
