We have decided to also make a stunt version of the legendary Babe Bee:

Bernie,
Superb! Very wise "decision"
Not sure exactly who is behind all these new offerings, if it's you then keep doing what your doing! If it's someone else on your team slap em a high five!
And the hits just keep on coming........
Wonder if an RR1 would be doable?

An RR1 would be technically do-able but you are looking at a retail price of way beyond $100 (probably like $150-200) because we would have to manufacture new parts as we would no longer be spring-boarding off our trusted Surestart stock.

Arrrgh!!!
I think it's finally sinking in through my thick skull.
Maybe I need to get my head out of the clouds. Maybe not........
How about an RR1 Venom?
Anodized like an RR1 but, with Venom performance? Ok, let's see you shoot that idea down!!!

Re: Stunt version of the Cox .049 Babe Bee
That's what I was thinking.
Another idea that will no doubt not be doable is a 5cc stunt tank or extended tank for a pee wee .020 then an rr .020 would in theory be doable but still I know not gonna happen.

Indra,
Anodizing is very doable in small scale and with common stuff found around the shop.

I know but I meant making the rear rotary valve would be hard anodising is always possible.cribbs74 wrote:Indra,

It would not be a true "RR1" because it would have reed valve.
Re: Stunt version of the Cox .049 Babe Bee
True but it would be pretty cool.
Maybe some one could just modify a golden bee into an rr1 look a like.

Yeah, put the tank and crankcase on a lathe and cut the grooves. Seems like you machine that rotary valve fairly easy. But then again, what do I know.
Re: Stunt version of the Cox .049 Babe Bee
I mean Fit90's friend machined a disc valve for his Valentien so maybe he could shed some light on this.

Correct the rotary reed would not be possible. I suggested Venom performance in an RR1 package. Looks externally like an RR1 but performs better. It was a suggestion given on jest. Of all my hair brained ideas I think this one is actually possible. Bernie and Matt already have some .049 sure start based "new" models ie: black bomber, green hornet, strawberry strumpet etc.
I figured an RR1 look alike that performs better than the original with a name recognized world wide might sell well.
It was just an idea, all in good fun. For the record, the engines Matt and Bernie have available are first rate and I feel very comforted knowing they have a genuine love for Cox products and that they are always looking at ways of improving their selection and expanding the Cox lineup.

Why don't you drop some cross-vent tubes in a 5cc tank? Make a mini stunt tank!
Re: Stunt version of the Cox .049 Babe Bee
see pics they made a 5cc stunt tank it came in a car back in the 60s

I see it in your gallery,
Very interesting.
Re: Stunt version of the Cox .049 Babe Bee
The only trouble with that is any engine with modern cylinder porting is basically hi performance compared with a standard Cox made Babe Bee, so 5cc would barely get you in the air before it sucks air. You could de-tune it with a Texaco backplate with a small air intake, plus a non-SPI piston, which might get you some more flying time. Slower engine, but then it is a Babe. EDIT:Then again it would be a great upgrade for an old standard Babe.Admin wrote:Why don't you drop some cross-vent tubes in a 5cc tank? Make a mini stunt tank!
I wonder the same thing about a Venom clone with 8cc. If a Black Widow gets around 2:10 at full bore wfo, you might only get a minute and half in the air with a Venom.

That explains why it was used in cars...

Not following you; why what was used in cars? I don't know much fuel about model cars.microflitedude wrote:That explains why it was used in cars...

Re: Stunt version of the Cox .049 Babe Bee
We fianlly decided on just making a new pin to hold the disc valve to the backplate. My friend made the pin (a one off custom item) and I did all the fitting. It cost $80.00 USD just for the pin, OUCH! If the part was made in any sizable quantity with a softer metal its cost could be reduced greatly though.nitroairplane wrote:I mean Fit90's friend machined a disc valve for his Valentien so maybe he could shed some light on this.

Wow sorry I miss understood when you told me the first time or mis remembered not sure wich.
But yeah that is a pain!
But yeah that is a pain!
Re: Stunt version of the Cox .049 Babe Bee
As expensive as it was relative to the engine it really is not that bad a deal.. It included the material, which had to be purchased in a much larger quantity than needed, a fixture, set up and the actual work. If these factors were spread out over a larger number of parts the price could be reduced dramatically. On that note, I can now get pistons lightened for under $10.00 each because all of these factors are pretty well satisfied at this point. Besides, it is just cool to get parts custom made.

Re: Stunt version of the Cox .049 Babe Bee
I suppose but I have seen that engine go for under 70 in the past.
