The NANO I is almost ready for another round of testing with the TD .020 RC need to fire
up the engine and check the throws on the throttle next. All up weight of this 3ch effort
is 3.6oz. with a thrust to weight ratio of 1.27:1 nearly 30% more and 92 mph static.
Will use a new 4k vid camera with reasonable ability to capture clarity during high speed passes.

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Thank you Gents!
Set up the throttle sleeve and top end the original tank has
small 1.5mm ID fuel line for the TD .010 it has robbed some top
end out of the .020 engine the NV had to be opened up 4 3/4 turns
to feed the thirsty beast. The restriction on the breather line
is the same 1.5 ID. A must for fuel draw with the TD .010's small
carb, standard 1/2A line causes weak draw less rpm unsteady screaming.
So will just have to take the hit I glued in the tank as part of the former
structure up front.
3.75x4
Static 21,560 rpm / 4.23oz thrust 82 mph best steady.
Best idle was 7,105 rpm without messing with the trim.

Yes friend, you see a super compact work there inside the fuselage ... I'm attentive to the video, it will surely look great in flight!

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Made a micro size thrust washer this evening for one of my TD .020's
This one had a horrible wear gap of .5mm just too much play for me to
stomach. Will help reduce oil drip out the front and more so less play
for the crank pin / con rod with no rub wear to the back plate. Note
thrust washer must fit over the crank shaft dia. not the spline.

Brad what is the material you used for the thrust washer? I have a similar issue with a fairly used but still as-new 020 and put a metric, normal washer between the prop drive plate and the collet..but do not like it and would like to swap with something more profesional.

2016-02-13 USA UteRC Indoor Tether Racing
Tue, 2016-02-16 15:22 — Ed Stimpson
The Utah State Aeromodelers invited the UteRC club to witness the raw speed of an indoor Tether Race on Feb. 13th. The planes have 1/8" inch thick x 12" wingspans with no controls and are powered by Cox TD .020 engines flying on the end of a 10-ft. steel tether line from a 2-ft. high pylon in the center of a 20-ft. circle. Top speed of the day was over 70 MPH in the 1/8 of a mile distance of 10 laps.

Just horrible to post and no vid a must these days, someone should have filmed with a smart phone
at a minimum lol. I hoped by posting this perhaps a member on here would pipe in with more info and vid link.
Photos are better than nothing of course, but we have become spoiled with vid lol
The one on the upper right looks like it might be a TD .010 based on the prop and size of the plane..

Brad , i see you glue your fuel tanks in why do you not put any foam around they (other than lack of space ) Nice weight on the tank by the way .

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
The tank controls the width of the plane and becomes a former, it must not move should I nose it in hard.
There is no room for more fuel this one will run for about 6.4 mins with a screaming TD.
About 4 mins. with this .05 car engine. Has done 36.7k with the HQ 4x4.5 / 148mph with the .09 size DART this smaller leaner plane will bust 155 with ease. Will use the TD .05 first want to achieve 130 with it for posterity.
Break thru Published on Oct 22, 2017
Tee Dee RC .050 - HQ Carbon 4x4.5
Best static peak 27,051 / .164hp / 122w / 8.5oz thrust / 115 mph
Nelson plug / aluminum carb body / pressure tap on muffler.
Engines on the nose in this pic.

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
With the heavy Cox muffler my efforts to keep the weight down has been difficult.
Did a weigh in as shown in pic including the aileron servo the 223g or 7.8oz.
If I forego the muffler the plane drops 19.3g to 7.18 oz.
Not too shabby considering the all ply and spruce fuselage adds more weight over typical
balsa worth it as it is rock solid. The CG worked out great no changes to the layout will be needed.
The tail surface are made out of the SIG airfoil balsa sanded to created a fully symmetrical airfoil.
The long tail moment and airfoils will stabilize the wing allowing it to lock in very well.
A bit of forced perspective at play here with the camera angles.

Very slender plane Brad..I still wonder why the glow plug which is a power killer instead of the stock hc head?

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Ply treatment to the center section top and bottom, will keep the rubber bands
from crushing the softer balsa and strengthen around the cutout for the flush
mounted aileron servo.
Galbreath Head and Nelson plug results:
Tee Dee RC .050 - All Carbon 4 x 4.5 speed prop.
Best static peak 27,051 / .164hp / 122w / 8.5oz thrust / 115 mph
Nelson plug / aluminum carb body / pressure tap on muffler.
