Happy Thanksgiving
What am I thankful for.
I'm the luckiest man in the world. I'm still alive after plunging into medical hell and clawing my way back several times. I have the coolest wife ever(the only reason I'm still alive), the coolest son ever, and though I live in a house that is old and dingy and meager by many people's standards, it keeps the weather out, and I have food on the table, and there's nothing I really need that would make me happier.
And after my two best friends are gone to the great party in the sky, I figured, well, now it's just us three, and had accepted that. And then in short order after getting re-involved in modeling, I have friends all over the damn place. On several continents, and I'm busier than a one armed paper hanger with itchy underwear having fun with them.
So, Thanks for that!

I too am very thankful. I have to hell and back through this life and somehow ended up with a pretty good family, a roof over my head, more food on the table than a fat man should eat, lots of airplanes, and a CEF family to share things with.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Re: Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving to all my CEF friends and their families!
I have much to be thankful for .... a very loving wife that has always understood my 'hobby' thing since I met her 35 years ago. I am only 1/2 of a total person .... she completes the rest of me. I don't know how I would survive without her.
My daughter has found the right road the last couple years and has turned into a wonderful adult and outstanding mother. I'm still enjoying the novelty of sleeping a whole might through without waking up worried about her.
My grandson .... he's only two, but just like my daughter when she came into this world .... this little guy is the pride of us all, and has changed me into a better person. At such a young age, I enjoy watching him explore 'his' world .... something that seems so insignificant to an adult, is just the center of the universe for him. It makes me smile that he can see such joy in the littlest things.
Have a great day everyone ...

Used to listen to that over and over (after a few rum and cokes). I don't know why we never tired of it.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving
Well, I'm sitting here with a full stomach but an empty feeling in my heart.
I lost my beautiful wife last March 13th. Since then there have been may "firsts" without her. A first birthday, a first anniversary, a first fourth of July. But this is perhaps the worst, a first Thanksgiving without her joyful presence at the table. With Christmas coming up I'm not sure that I can cope. High school sweethearts, 58 years nine months and four days just gone. Yes, happy memories linger, but they can be torture too.
The whole family was here, from the great grandson through the grand children to our three kids two dogs and me. Now they have all left, just me and Spike are here and the sun is going down. I have much to be thankful for except for me the most important piece of my life is missing.
But I did turn here for diversion and insperation which I found in many of your messages on this day of thanksgiving. So I am thankful for my health, my family, and the fellowship offered here on the CEF.

Hoping the best for you Bob. It's a tough time dealing with the double-edge cut of holidays and missing loved ones who've gone on ahead of us.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving
Well we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia (maybe we should), although we do have "Harvest Thanksgiving" at our church which I guess is similar. Depends on who you're thanking. While I won't trouble folks with my own personal family woes (2 rebelious sons & a wife who doesn't cope with their ways), I'm thankful that it's not just this short time on earth that I have to look forward to. There's better to come.
Bob, I won't try to explain or justify the way you're feeling right now. It's hard to see the positives when in your position, but Bob you've already stated one huge and joyful thing to be thankful for- 58 years of love & companionship. That's a lot better than many get.
So enjoy the memories, the kids, the grand kids, the great grand kids (and the dogs). Each day has the potential to be better than the last. We just can't see it through the tears sometimes.
God Bless.
Rod.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving
I'm thankful for all the members that make CEF the place that it is. You guys make up the best online community I've ever been apart of. It is interesting how you get to know people you never met or even talked to on the phone. Meeting people from all over the world. I always like to hear stories about how one member will go meet up with another member. Some members find out that they are within reasonable driving distance of each other and they become good friends, meeting on weekends over lunch, going out to flying fields, swap meets... You guys are some of the most generous members I've ever seen on an online forum. I can't count how many times I've seen members giving parts, kits and even complete engines to each other. Jason who offered up the Traveling Engines, Matt and Bernie who sponsor events on the forum, supplying necessary supplies and prizes, and many others that the list would go on who have offered to help, offered to supply prizes, donated $$ to help out with the relatively low costs of keeping this place going.
I give thanks to YOU!
This is the 2nd Thanksgiving without my grandpa. He's been gone for a little over a year, it's hard as this was his favorite holiday. He loved the food and having all the family here. You just have to think of all the good times together and remember that they really are still here, just not in the form you'd prefer them to be. Only one cousin showed up today, the rest of the family had excuses not to come (which they often seem to come up with). Still had nice Thanksgiving.
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.
I'm stuffed!

First , I want to give thanks to Ralph Nader and the inventor of automobile safety belts and somewhat to our Goverment for requiring ( Click/it or Ticket) us to use them every time we get in our cars. My eldest son as been saved twice in the last 45 days, by the use of his safety belt. Been in two accidents, totaled two cars, and walked away with only black and blue stripes across his chest from the life saving straps. They kept him intact inside his vehicle as it did a 360 spin over a ice covered bridge, and rolled over twice while sliding down the embankment after leaving the road. Whew, I'm not sure I can take receiving anymore late night phone calls starting with: " Hi Dad, I am OK, but the Car is totaled, and I need a ride home". We've enjoyed a very happy thanksgiving with both sides of our families, giving thanks for all our blessings, friends, family and memories of those who are no longer with us. As a young nephew said, I'm thankful for safety belts too, cause thanksgiving day funerals just aren't any fun!
Then, I want to thank Roddie for the link to Arlo Guthries , Alice's Restaurant. This has been a thanksgiving day standard on one of our local classic rock FM radio stations. I missed it this year, but they did mention that it was the 50th anniversary for Arlo and this song:

Thanks to everyone on the forum!

Sorry to hear about your wife. I've had my wife for 23 years now and it would be hard to imagine life with out her. Married her 6 days after she got out of high school. We had far to many missing at my house yesterday, but we are happy and gratefully for the ones still with us. God Bless

Well.. it's that time of the year once more. For me, it seems to have passed in the blink of an eye. I'm thankful for all of my friends here on the forum.. and wanted to express that today. You're like family to me.
Re: Happy Thanksgiving
Thanks Roddie! ( spell check just overwrote your name to Rosie! ) You're right, it feels like family. I check in here, a lot more than I do anywhere else. Love to see and hear the antics of fellow members vs the layers of crap on facebook. From Ian's diesels, Jose's control line flights, Kim's flight videos, 1/2a Nuts Superspeed to Bob's and soon Rods new garage work shop and everything in between! Thanks EVERYONE, I enjoy being here with you! Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
