Horseshoe backplate spraybar removal
I am setting up my Tach race engine and I noticed that the spray bar hole is cocked to the left when viewed from the venturi hole. I was wanting to press it out and center it as well as give it a thorough cleaning. I know this was mentioned elsewhere but I cant seem to find it. So what is the best way to press it out? I only have one shot at this and I don't want to break anything.

Re: Horseshoe backplate spraybar removal
I was reading Larry Rengers how to hop up those backplates a fews days ago. He said turn vent hole 15 degrees downstream of perpendicular to the flow. He was talking about getting more power out of the Hiper Viper.

I have the same problem, but am not going to mess with it in fear of breaking something.
Re: Horseshoe backplate spraybar removal
Or just use a different spraybar like I did.
Pic coming shortly.

Good idea Nitro, unfortunately I don't have the time to get that done before the Tach Race!

That is true Ron.
Here is a pic of the rear of mine.
I also enlarged the intake for more air flow.

Thanks for the suggestion, I am not sure if that is what I already have going on. I am having a little trouble visualizing what you mentioned. The spray bar is perpendicular already but the hole the fuel sprays from is off center. 15 degrees? Not sure.

Yeah, I want to do that too, nobody has answered my original question as to how to properly press the spray bar out!

I don't know I just drilled it out along with the excess delrin.

I found the other thread started by Micro, good explanation of how it is done.

Re: Horseshoe backplate spraybar removal
Another way to say it would be to turn the vent hole 75 degrees from strait forward, almost sideways.

Re: Horseshoe backplate spraybar removal
85 degrees from forward would be 15 from perpendicular. To remove it, I would try(never done this) heating it with a soldering iron and pulling it out, then re-seat it with some JB Weld on the splines.crankbndr wrote: Another way to say it would be to turn the vent hole 75 degrees from strait forward, almost sideways.
I can't see the hole in the spraybar in that picture. As for the venturi, I think whatever size the red KB venturi is is about the useable maximum, After that it probably gets really hard to crank.

So were they offset from the factory on purpose?
Re: Horseshoe backplate spraybar removal
Done!
That was so easy that I feel stupid for even asking the question.

So how did you do it?
Re: Horseshoe backplate spraybar removal
Popped the black tube piece off, pushed on the brass tube with a plastic drift and out she came!

Do you have a link for the article? I would be interested in reading it if possible.
Thanks,

Don't think this is the exact article but it's written by Larry Renger
http://www.mccookfieldfac.com/helpful-info/cox-engines.pdf
It's a good read nonetheless.

Re: Horseshoe backplate spraybar removal
According to Larry, I've already ruined all of my engines by washing them off with fuel and flying them again. Oh well, I wouldn't have much fun if I went home as soon as I crashed every time.
