Bernie, what type of glue used to the secure the vent tubes on your stunk tanks?

We went with JB Weld epoxied to the inside entry surface as well as the venturi post; followed by silver touch up paint.
Re: Cox 8cc aluminum tanks for .049 engine now available
You were able to find fuel proof silver paint? Was it an epoxy?

Re: Cox 8cc aluminum tanks for .049 engine now available
I have no clue if the paint it fuel-proof, although it is automotive paint.
The paint is merely for first-view optics and, once the tank is installed, who cares about appearances inside?

Re: Cox 8cc aluminum tanks for .049 engine now available
If the paint is not fuel proof why happens when the fuel washes it through the engine?
Re: Cox 8cc aluminum tanks for .049 engine now available
Dunno but we might find out the hard way. Personally, I think it will all be fine. I threw some fuel into a tank on the weekend and the paint was still there 2 days later.
Re: Cox 8cc aluminum tanks for .049 engine now available
Cool I doubt any major problems will arise but maybe an annoyance if the paint turns to goo.
Re: Cox 8cc aluminum tanks for .049 engine now available
That is a good point.
I went back to the one that has been soaking in nitro for 5 days. The paint still shows but does scrape off if brushed. Hence, we will be omitting the paint on future assemblies.

From my experience with Krylon spray enamel it is fuel-proof.

Re: Cox 8cc aluminum tanks for .049 engine now available
We are currently experimenting with an epoxy-less install. Let's see how that goes.
Re: Cox 8cc aluminum tanks for .049 engine now available
Paint? One thing to consider is the possibility of deposits on the glow head coil, decreasing performance.
What about spot welding?
What about spot welding?
Re: Cox 8cc aluminum tanks for .049 engine now available
As I mentioned, we are no longer adding touch-up paint.
Spot welding may work, dunno, but we are not really skilled in much else but office work around here. Drilling the holes in the tanks is already "interesting". Try drilling on a curved surface and still have the holes line up more or less perfectly on opposite sides.
We have another idea that might work and will experiment with such.
Too bad we can't make them the way Cox did.

How did Cox make them?
Re: Cox 8cc aluminum tanks for .049 engine now available
Press fit.
The top of the tube had a bigger OD than the bottom; whereas the point that met the tank surface had a 1/16" tapered step.
