Re: Brodak Mustang Build
Yeah but that makes too much sense. And if I don't put one on, it will need it LolCribbs74 wrote:RknRusty wrote:That'll do it.
I think I'll add one to my Twister wing, now on the table. I'll probably use #2 hardware with a small 1/2A horn, and punch through the wing as close as I can, to avoid drag as much as possible, Maybe anchor it to a ply web between the top and bottom spars. As far as weight, that's just some you don't have to add to the box.
Rusty
You could just fly it and see if it even needs one.
Edit: and just between you and me... don't tell anyone on the forum... I just think it looks cool.

I will need to disconnect one end to adjust.

Was that adjustable tab your Idea or did the kit come that way? Good Idea?JPvelo wrote:getback wrote:Jim to adjust that do you just turn the TR or you need to take it apart ? I think it looks cool too , well thought out . getback

The kit didn't come that way but it certainly wasn't my idea either. At the last club meeting Jim Hoffman showed a machined aluminum hinge with a small set screw on the barrel, to be used for a trim tab on his new build. Now THAT was slick.

Re: Brodak Mustang Build
If you used a left hand die on one end of the rod, you could just turn the rod to adjust it. You may find it convenient to hook it to a closer hole in the horn to get more deflection. Hopefully you won't need more though.getback wrote:Jim to adjust that do you just turn the TR or you need to take it apart ? I think it looks cool too , well thought out . getback
I've mounted tabs two ways. On my Yak-9, I put the fixed tab on the wing TE under the flap with the bend at the hinge line. On the Cardinal I put the downturned tab on the flap TE. I wonder if this causes the amount of drag to increase with flap deflection, causing it to yaw out more during inside turns. Possibly making it less effective for outside turns. The effect of a wing mounted tab seems like it would be more symmetrically effective... does that make sense to y'all? Nitpicking, I guess, but stunters are a nitpicky bunch.

Here she is, all done except for leadouts, tank, and clear on the decals. Will probably a few weeks at best before I can do a maiden flight.

Jim, nicely done. Good luck with it. Ken Here is a pic of Mike's P-51. I can't believe the power it has when your holding it before it spools up. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=897355

Thanks guys! Eric, that's paint. Took about three hours to mask off all of the checkers. I felt like I needed a visit to the eye doctor by the time I was done.

Holee Crap! This is what I get for sitting on the sidelines for the holidays. I just saw it today and it looks fantastic. I'll definitely stay tuned for the maiden and more. Nice work Jim.
I didn't know who's model had that scheme. I have a picture of Mike Palko's at Brodak in my desktop slideshow. One of my favorite pictures.
I hope y'all are settling in after the move. Must've been a hectic holiday season. Welcome to 2016, happy new year.

Re: Brodak Mustang Build
Lol, that's like asking a kid if he built his Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Car by himself!
He actually did most of it, I used to have a laundry basket full of odd pieces of scrape wood in the shop to help keep him busy when i was working on a plane. I remember he picked the wood and 'framed it up' (i probably helped nail it together) he painted it with gloss latex. I remember he was pretty proud of it and insisted we take it to the field when we went flying..i think we even hauled it to Muncie one year, it's powered by a Merco .51 case!
