I have 6 cox baby bees without gaskets, i have tried different materials to bild them withoutt success, carboard, latex from gloves, etc, fuel is still leaking...
what can you recommend to build the gaskets that goes between the tank and the body ?

Harrier,
Welcome to the forum! When you get a moment introduce yourself in the introduction section of this forum.
As to your question. I an not sure what gasket material is used, but it appears to be a paper style. I will say new gaskets are readily available from sources found on this site. New ones are so cheap that it would be less effort and expense to buy then make your own. If you are making them for fun then perhaps another member here can chime in as to what material is used.
Good Luck!

Re: homemade gaskets
I have used brown paper from a paper grocery bag before and it worked and didn't leak. I replaced it shortly after getting some real factory gaskets.
Re: homemade gaskets
You can really use anything for the gaskets, even seal around the outside with RTV sealant.
That said, we do sell the OEM kind

Three OEM head gaskets go for less than $3. Why try making your own?

I won't have to wait 2 weeks for them to arrive,I can re use materials instead of throwing away and buying new ones,I find it interesting to make things for myself.
Re: homemade gaskets
Because i don´t want to wait 3 weeks for them to arrive and because sometimes i have no spare gaskets and it´s painful have to stop flying....

A excellent sealant that is proven resistant to high percentages of nitro fuel is this stuff:
http://tkocompetitiondev.com/product_info.php?cPath=38_114&products_id=378
Been using it for years and and still do to seal up those pesky tuning air leaks. Carb necks, case to tank/backplate areas, a threadlocker for screws. Whenever I rebuild a motor, all possible areas that might leak fuel or pull air gets this stuff. It creeps into the tiny crevises that you can't see. You can use it on gaskets or by itself.

Yeah, this is a great idea to use with gaskets when trying to get the best possible performance on a racing engine.

I live in Mexico. It´s almost impossible to get cox spares locally....

gaskets
They are pretty cheap through the cox dealers these days, but if you can`t wait for slow shipping: my pappy never bought a gasket for anything, made all his own.
Car/truck engines, head gaskets and all, on down to chain saw carb gaskets for the little saws too.
He would use the thin cardboard like the boxed ciggarette boxes, coated with permatex (varieties depending on application) and cereal boxes etc. Even the thicker magazine covers worked for the small jobs.
put the permatex on after you cut the "gasket" material to fit. wipe the excess permatex off so there is only a thin coating, allow to partially set up, then assemble loosely and allow a bit more set up time using a dab on seperate material for testing set up times, tighten in incerments as time pacces by but having final assembly done before permatex is fully cured.
Pappy did all sorts of mechanic/repair work locally as well as his own, and was also a union carpenter.
He never had a failure on his gaskets

Re: homemade gaskets
You have to be careful because SOME end plate gaskets set up the amount of crankshaft end play. That's all determined by the drive washer on the front of a cox motor (and most other model aircraft motors) and as such the end plate gasket is just a sealing media.
The best gasket material I found is the brown paper that is wrapped around auto parts. Usually a cosmoline soaked paper, but it is a very tight construction on the fibers. Once the cosmoline is washed off as best as possible, it makes a great gasket material and is about the same thickness as the regulal cox gaskets.

Re: homemade gaskets
Before I met up with our current suppliers of great stuff, I made case gaskets from card stock. Advertising cards, the type inserted in magazines will work, just try to cut the center hole as accurately as possible. With the gasket positioned on the tank, start the bolt holes with a pin, use the mounting bolts to enlarge the holes, before putting the whole thing back together.
It'll work in a pinch, and at one time, I thought it was gonna be the only way to make gaskets for the rest of time I'd be messing with these engines.

Definetelly it´s veru interesting what you guys have done to solve this gasket problem, today i will try with mag covers and try to find this brown paper from car spares and will se what happens while i wait for the original gaskets i´ve ordered from cox international, even though i sent the package to US adress, they told me they will send to mexico, so i´m very happy for that.
I´m about to revive 3 engines my grandpha gave me 20 years ago...

I think Bernie will ship almost anywhere, I get orders from him usually in a week or so, which, considering it's across the Atlantic, is pretty damn good!
In my experience, the friendly and knowledgable folk on this forum can usually solve any engine problems you may have!
