Cox Engine of The Month
New Black Widow
New Black Widow
If anyone has or spots one I'm looking for the original version the way Cox intended. None of this plastic back plate crap and if I'm correct it should have open ports with 2 by pass flutes on a number 1 cylinder. Must be mint. If you spot on FeeBay please post the link.

NIB 1973 Black Widow in spider box. These are the earliest ones you'll find. You'll need to fight for it though, its got some other bidders who've already racked up the price.

Later model with snap starter, still features metal backplate and real #1 cylinder. ONLY 16hrs LEFT ON THIS ONE! Price is already up there though.

Re: New Black Widow
The spider box looks good, but I just want the engine to use. I prefer the old style snap started. Thanks.

Re: New Black Widow
You want one to use, it has to be mint (or in really good shape) but it doesn't need to be in its box? You also like the older snap starters that didn't require the hex driveplate?

Re: New Black Widow
Looking at the Cox in a spider box, it has the snap starter. What appears to be plastic is the black wire tie used to hold it in place.

Re: New Black Widow
Right. It has the old style snap starter not the one for the hex drive plate on latter versions.

Re: New Black Widow
Why not try for the newer one of the two? It's 1/2 the $$ (right now..) and if you win it, you can swap the starter spring. I realize that the older springs have a smaller coil-dia. and don't fit over the hex drive-plate.. but you can always pull the drive-plate off to install the spring.. right? If you did that, it would also provide the option of inspecting/swapping-out the crank.. and reinstalling a round drive-plate if you wanted.
I may be full of crap too.. because thinking about it now.. the smaller spring might bind on the larger diameter crankcase-nose while winding? No.. I think it's the hex drive-plate that's the main issue.. if you consider that an issue.

NIB Black Widow
I have a mint New in Spider Box Black Widow for $100 + $10 post. I can install a new hex drive spring starter arrangement if you want.

Re: New Black Widow
Paul I'm looking to fly it so a box is not important. If I could get ahold of the correct new cylinder/piston I could build the rest.

Actually, those sets would be a nice hop up for any of the Cox .049 Reedies including Sure Start, Babe Bee, 290 and Golden Bee.Admin wrote:These are the correct sets.jsesere wrote:Paul I'm looking to fly it so a box is not important.
