P-51B Update

P-51B Update
Cleaned it up a bit yesterday. Removed the glow plug and sprayed some Remoil on top of the piston, around the exhaust ports and needle valve, filled the venturi and let it set. A few hours later it had loosened those frozen parts up enough so I could work the prop back and forth.
The needle valve was also stuck hard but it too loosened up. I thought I had snapped the tapered end off but looking closely at the needle it's tapered to a near point on the end. First one I have seen like that. Early model???
The engine is marked OK on both bearers and has a radial mount as well which is squared off and screwed on.
I used Remoil on a soft cloth to clean the exterior of the airplane, then polished with a clean cloth.
Admittedly crude construction by the builder, but he gets points for the scratch build and the laminated built up wing. It grows on me.

Re: P-51B Update
That little Mustang would make a nice decoration. It definitely has a lot of character I'd leave it as it is, except maybe the clear parts could be replaced. Old glue and plastic sometimes react like that over the years, it has happened to one of my planes that is only about 25-30 years old.
Does it look like it has flown, and are you going to fly it?
For some weird reason I like stuff like that, pre-internet-era homebuilt planes... Like the Cox Stuka with the PT-19 wing that was discussed a while ago. Not exactly a scratch build but still, "making do with what was on hand at the time" kind of build.

Re: P-51B Update
I remember that cross built Stuka/PT19. I almost bought it for the canopys but the $60 price held me back. I wonder if it ever sold.
I don't know if this plane has ever been fueled. It was gummed up so maybe it was but there was no blow back castor on the plane. It would be fun to fly it.
I have some P-51 decals coming for it, I may or may not apply them.

lol, i guess thats the upside to a non-reed engine, you don't need to tear down to clean gummed up reed.

Oh yes, details would dress it up nicely
