Crumby, Cloudy, Windy Morning...Then...The Evening Arrived !!!
So, you can't always judge a day by it's morning.
Woke to the sound of rattling windows in this old house, got my first big cup of coffee, and surveyed a day that looked like it'd fit comfortably right in the middle of November: a cold cloudy beginning to be best used on a run to the laundromat and a little grocery shopping.
But...by mid-afternoon, the sun was breaking out, and the birds were going on their chargers.
Thought I'd post a few photos from this great evening:
The 3-Meter Bird of Time cruises high above Vince's hide-away model field. My old alma mater, A.K.A.-The Diaper Factory, fills up the valley in the distance.
Vince's and his 3-D Foamy.
Had to go to the 2-Meter B.O.T. after I found a loose push-rod housing in it's 3-Meter sibling. Yeah...I eventually get it all untangled...
Vince's 3-d dives for it's life from the B.O.T. and it's screaming Tee Dee.
Also tried to capture some air-to-air footage with our matching Aeronca's, though our 'formation flying' deteriorated pretty quickly to 'Dueling Champs' !!!

Re: Crumby, Cloudy, Windy Morning...Then...The Evening Arrived !!!
Thanks Guys!
Yeah, Vince's little lake in the woods has hosted a lot of cool stuff over the years...over-powered swamp buggies, and the occasional float-equipped Lazy Bee...and even a fishing trip once in a while.
He's still working on the field, and we ought to have it civilized before too long.
The control line circle does have a slight slope, and a bump on the southeast corner, but it's easily workable !

Wow! I didn't think those little Champs could carry that much weight! Are you using the stock motor?
I'm glad the day turned out good for you. I'm jealous, as it's been lousy heere lately. I'm getting worried about Saturday...

Yeah, it's ALL stock. I DID finally break down and buy a new battery...but that's it. This little sucker is something for the money...I have flown the daylights out it, and may do a product review for Tailwinds at some point.
I sandwiched a piece of soft foam between the camera and the plane, and also installed it upside-down to make turning it on a bit easier. My Windows Movie-Maker Program lets me flip the footage for video.
The wind and clouds have returned here, so today will be spent making a "Wing Locker" for the big van...since the B.O.T.'s covering took another hit.
No two ways about it though--me and the wing of the 2-Meter B.O.T. are gonna have to have us a Monokote session before long.
Think my Uncle Wayne is a little ashamed to be seen next to it with it's strips of trailing plastic...though I thought it made the thing look a bit festive...

The old BOT has character. Yours is one of my favorite planes that I've never actually seen. So many interesting power plant arrangements too. How old is she now?

Open spaces.... I love 'em!
Enjoy and take advantage as often as possible. Looks like you had a ton of fun. I am
thinking of buying my son a champ as he likes RC more than CL.

Thanks Rusty!
I bought it at a Swap Meet at about this time of year in Belleville, Illinois back in 1999...so it's right at 15 years that I've had it. It's was propped up against the wall behind one of the tables with a broken wing, and I didn't know for sure if it was for sale or already bought. I remember waving some cash at it's owner. Can't remember now what I actually paid for it, but it wasn't much, and I DO remember making a beeline back home to fix it's wing.
Whoever built it put a lot of love in the sailplane, with lots of little homemade stuff that JUST fit inside that pod.
I intended to use a new High-Start on it, but also built a pylon while I was fixing it, and bolted a hard-run Black Widow up top. The Black Widow made getting out of the yard a lot easier.
It was about this time that I had an amazing epiphany in that a sailplane MIGHT make a better, more stable camera platform than my MKI Kadet and so, the B.O.T. began it's reconnaissance career.
Packing a Walmart returnable camera, we got one shot per flight, but even with the cheap camera, I thought some of the photos came out really nice.
Things have really changed...there's a subdivision on that next hill past the lake now.
OK...enough about my kids! Sorry for the foaming !!!

Well I really like this one. I've had it almost 4 years, and it's STILL going strong. Being a fan of the full-size version, MY favorite thing is to back the power down and cruise it around the yard at about 5 feet of altitude on a calm evening. It's light weight lets it come by at eye-ball level, looking just like my buddy Terry's Aeronca down at the airport!
The original battery still puts in a pretty good run, though it's winding down, but with it and the new one I bought, I can pack in a lot of flying around sunset, and even on some fairly cold mornings.
