"Kenner" SSP

"Kenner" SSP
The Hasbro "Gassers" thread made me reminisce about this favorite toy from my childhood (circa 1970) This was called the "Eliminator"!! (based on the "Laker-Special") It had a weighted gyro-wheel into which a gear-toothed "T-Stick" rip-cord engaged. They were FAST!
Kenner made several different models.. including a set of "smash-up derby" cars that exploded on impact!!! I also had this set.

Roddie!!!!!!!!!! my favorite tool of all times next to the Evil Knievel cycle. My fondest memories of the SSP. I still have a rip cord. I got that baby cranked up and stuck it in my sister's hair. I'll never forget that butt whooping. The grand finale however is when I broke my mother's ankle when it hit the baseboard and turned around and hit her. SSP's were banned in my house. I did have the Smash Up Derby and somewhere I still have a door. Ken

I had the "Tough Tom" and "Buggem" version of the Smash up Derby. Got it Christmas '81 or '82
I never had the Evel Kneivel cycle, but I have played with one and remember the hand crank. You had to get the launch just right or it would fall over otherwise.

Damn Ken... that musta' HURT! The "Evil Knievel" motorcycle was an AWESOME toy!!!! These toys "DELIVERED"!! I can remember playing with them for hours.. day after day!
Yea Ron... there was a "launching-station".. and the bike had pins on the rear axle; that fit into it. "Crank it up with all your might.. and let her rip!!"

I had one that my dad had played with and gave to me! It was the Star Wars Van!

I remember those! I had a Zip Chord Racer but mine was a Beetle Bug.roddie wrote:The Hasbro "Gassers" thread made me reminisce about this favorite toy from my childhood (circa 1970) This was called the "Eliminator"!! Remember these?
I got one for Christmas one year and man did I have a blast with it until I launched it from my tree fort. It got some sick air! But in typical Evil Knievel fashion, the landing didn't go so well!

Man! I had all three of these when I was a kid living on the Naval base! I think of the SSP on occasion, but I forgot about the Derby and Knieval sets! Good Times.
