Teflon tape and needles

Teflon tape and needles
I am curious to know if anyone has used Teflon-tape to seal the threads on a needle valve to prevent air-leakage? Would this be a NO-NO? I realize that the tape is meant for sealing threads that will be "assembled" and not "moved".. but would it work temporarily.. for say; "a few engine runs"? It would be a simple matter; to just remove and "re-wrap" the threads (even if frequently) to be able to achieve some steady runs out of a loose or finicky needle.. wouldn't it?
Maybe the fine-threads on a needle would bind with it's use? Anyone ever tried it?

Re: Teflon tape and needles
I've seen it suggested but don't know of anyone who's followed through. It might work. Obviously, given teflon tape's tendency to shred, just watch for any fray as you wrap it.roddie wrote:I am curious to know if anyone has used Teflon-tape to seal the threads on a needle valve to prevent air-leakage? Re: Teflon tape and needles
I was at "Lowe's" home center recently, looking through their plumbing department.. and noticed some special Teflon-tape for "gas" fittings. The product was also marked "premium" .. or "high-performance".. (can't remember which.. ) but it was a "yellow" color, and a LOT more money. I wonder if it is less prone to the "shredding" that can happen.. as Rusty mentioned?
Here's a spec. by "Oatey".. a plumbing parts distributor.

After doing some research.. the "gas" compatible Teflon-tape is a higher density.. and resistant to most petroleum products and safe to use on a variety of materials.
