S.M.A.L.L. Days
Aero Allen's new membership has spurred me to dig through the musty archives for some long-forgotten photo moments of our adventures at the S.M.A.L.L. Fly-Ins. Many were done with my light-leaking 35mm film camera, along with some photos Allen and a fellow named Robert Higgins mailed me.
Figure I'll leave the "Official Archive Cardboard Box"" here by the scanner and post the better photos as I find them....treating it as an On The Ramp Right Now thread with updates along the way.
The S.M.A.L.L. Fly-In (Small Model Airplane Lovers League) was (is?) held in Little Rock, Arkansas (along with some other locations), and I made the pilgrimage there for several years in a row, meeting Joe Wagner and his son, Andy Clancy, Crystal King, and several other Stars.
I've got some video of Crystal slicing the air with a combat plane, AND also flying a member's Veco Chief...I'll try to find that footage.
The first couple of S.M.A.L.L. Fly-In's I attended were held at a "Plantation" east of Little Rock, then they were moved to Maumelle, Arkansas just to the west of the city.
This is my best shot at assembling a panoramic photo from the first fly-in I attended:
Andy Clancy and his Hive of Bees. He's holding his then-new electrified "Stagger Bee".
Aero Allen making laps at the Muamelle Fly-In:
Allen and I get our photo snapped by my camera-packing Lazy Bee:
The city-supported Model Airplane Park at Maumelle:
EARLY morning at Maumelle! My new cargo trailer is graced by Joe Wagner's free flight planes. I had a ton of room to spare, and storing the planes in my trailer saved Joe and his son from having to disassemble their planes.

Thanks Eric!
When I first saw Steve's plane, I thought he'd kit-bashed the plane to get this done. But then discovered that he made up the Rogallo as it's own unit, just being strapped on in place of the wing. I asked him, how he came to decide on what size and span it should be, and he held out his thumb and sighted down it with one eye! GOT to love the T.L.A.R. (That Looks About Right) engineering discipline !!!
This is the kind of stuff that I think is REAL fun...especially when it works !!!!
