Patrick's Latest Plane !
My flying bud, Patrick is rapidly becoming "The King of Dewey Birds", having built 4 or five of them...guess if you find a good thing...stick with it.
Anyway, this is his latest creation, a bright yellow rendition of Dave Shipton's little circle-turner. Pulled around by one of Matt/ExModelEngines' "Black Lynx", we got some initial bugs worked out while he spun some high RPM's (the Black Lynx AND Patrick!) on 35 feet of Spider Wire out in the front yard.
I imagine that, as you read this, that he is prepping to fly it on his typical 50 foot set of lines.

Well, you're gonna have to come up here! I don't think either of us could handle a road-trip to South Carolina !!!

Re: Patrick's Latest Plane !
Looking good there.
Looks like a nice slab wing plane. Have not seen one before.
It seems like you guys there have a lot of fun. Control line is dying here is South Africa. Hope we can get it started up again.
Enjoy the fun. I just do not see me building the same plane 5 times.

Hey Theo,
Yeah, Patrick and I are about the only Control Liners in our immediate area, though the club over in Paducah, Kentucky (50 miles away) is really active, with some very nice flying circles.
Patrick has some physical challenges that tend to limit him to slab-wing models (he has also built a couple 1/2A Skyrays), though I've helped him with some larger projects like his ARF Flite Steak.
He IS a little different (like I can talk!) in his views about control line flying, and I think our flying sessions are as much a chance for social interaction for him as much as his pursuing the hobby.
I'm currently working on an slab-wing for him, using the moments and measurements from a Sig Buster, so he'll have a plane for use with a Fox .15 he keeps babbling about. We'll see how THAT goes !
Good luck on starting up the circle-turning over there !!!

Yeah Eric, know what you mean!
My "retirement" is following the exact tracks that everyone told me it would! My Uncle, cousin, an old flying buddy, and Beth all have some health issues going on, so I'm busier than a preacher at a peep show !!!
The Sig Buster IS a bit smallish for a .15...designed as a Team Racer, I think. I just used the wing location and tail moment to get something in the ballpark. The wingspan and chord, as also with the tail feathers, will be enlarged using the time-honored TLAR & WAG techniques!
Patrick is buying the balsa, and I've already warned him that this IS an experimental, work-on-it-when-I-feel-like-it deal.
Please note that the french curve is thrown in PURELY for aesthetics, as this sucker ain't gonna have any curves other than the ones Patrick may want to sand into it !!!
Let the balsa dust fly !!!!

The French curve... an awesome design tool.. which reminds me; did you drag that drafting table out of your storage unit yet? I'd absolutely LOVE to have one of those.. and the "space" to put in... Actually... the wife want's me to build another shed for storage.. and I've talked her into "lengthening" the one we already have, by 5000 sq. feet... The existing shed is pretty big.. but there's no electricity out there. It's a "gambrel-roofed" building with a loft that's accessible from two open bays. I really like the design... one standard door and one double door with ramps for both. I want to build 12 foot extensions off each side... matching the same design and roofline. One side would be my model shop with insulation and heat.
For my "Just In Case" drawer
When I heard SIG was discontinuing a lot of stuff, I looked at the Dewey Bird as a traditional SIG kit to have on hand as one of the "Standards". They were already out of stock, so I went to the Aircraft Parts section of their website and ordered the plans, decals, and hardware for the Dewey Bird. I figured I had enough wood to build one when I was ready for it, and even if not, I could always get the wood at the hobby shop later.

It's kinda funny how they've discontinued the Super Chipmunk kit, but they have all the parts of the kit for sale individually. It'll cost you $125.97 to build a SIG Super Chipmunk, but you can still do it for now.
They also have plans, wing kits, and hardware packs for the Twister and Banshee, if anyone wants to get them before they're all gone. Hmmmm... Maybe I'll order a Twister wing and plans, also. Have to look into those over on Stunt Hanger.

Nope...still looking for that drawing board...and I'm running out of places to search! Looks like it may have succumbed to the multiple moves after my last divorce ! I DID but a new T-Square...like the way it looks hanging on my shop wall !
Good luck on getting your shop up and going...a guy needs his "Think Cave"!!!!

Yeah, the old kits have been hanging in there, I'm kinda surprised that they were even still being carried. Uncle Wayne built a Super Chipmunk way back in 1976, but it didn't get it's first flight until a couple years ago. I spent several evenings digging the mud-dabber nests out of it, and it STILL seemed awfully heavy.
The Stallion .35 pulled it around OK, but needed some more work to NOT be scary in stunts. Think it needs some wingtip and nose ballast, but we went onto other things, and so the Chipmunk is parked for now.
