Assaulting the Assault Van

Assaulting the Assault Van
Finally made a move toward properly equipping the new van with something better than a lash-up using a shooting table for a work counter.
Any of you design-as-you-go types will probably understand why it took me an entire day to build a single shelf, and STILL not finish it.
I hauled out an impressive collection of, as Arlo Guthrie would put it, "Implements of Destruction", and proceeded fearlessly sawing and drilling assorted sheets of ply and 1x1's left over from the Baby Snowbird project.
My Flight Box served as a useful jig fixture to hold the incredibly clumsy/heavy work table in place as I tried to attach it without putting any external dents in the vans sides. Gonna use some 2x4's as legs...today's mission !!!
My excuse for making such a 'thing' out of the whole deal is that I need to be able to easily remove everything I put in here for those time when I got to haul something big for myself or one of my buds. So, I got to design it to be removable without too much fuss.
Want to be popular? Buy a cargo van!!!
The shelf will also eventually serve as the lid for a cargo box / bed frame that will probably take me a week to build ! I've done a lot of "Parking Lot Camping" on my assorted adventures, and this big sucker will give me a bit more elbow room over it's predecessor:
Hopefully, it'll make it through it's life without any Kansas hail damage also...

Thanks Duke !!!
I AM having a big time !!! Just got to get the ducks all lined up! Yeah, bought this Ram Van in early March, and am REALLY looking forward to getting it 'Guy Friendly' !!! Gonna use the old van as a rat-dragger for doing dirty work, but this new one is slated to be my Deluxe Mobile Man Cave !!!
Badly miss my airport job (always have my scanner going to make sure I get my daily dose of airplane talk!), but it'll be hovering out there if I absolutely HAVE to go back, so retirement isn't too threatening at this point. Right now, trying to knock off all these 'gonna-do' projects before the summer slips away from me !!!!!!!
