Stickers and Decals
Not sure if this topic belongs here, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I have the ability to create decals and stickers for our planes. I can re-create anything past or present also custom decals/stickers as well. There is a catch......I would need an example of what you want done to ensure correct dimensions and color. This could be done with a scale drawing , resized picture or an actual decal. I Just wanted to throw that out there. I am offering this service only for our members here and I am not planning on making a ton of money with this as I already have a day job. I would just be glad to help those in need.
If for some reason there is a copyright issue, that will have have to be addressed on a case by case basis. I am not sure if that is even an issue as long as it is deemed for personal use. I don't want to get in any trouble here!
So that being said let me know if you need something special to finish off that model let me know, it doen't even have to be a model it could be for whatever you wish!
Moderators: If this needs to be elsewhere feel free to move it. If I am out of line offering this service feel free to chastise me LOL
Thanks,

Ron,
If we stopped our members offering kind services what kind of moderators would we be?
But thanks for offering this service!
If you like it can be moved to the for sale section.

Ron:
I've been very disappointed to find that "stickers" aren't fuel-proof but melt away when coated with clear butyrate dope. Such was the case on my "Lil Toot" bipe which flies well but looks terrible with melted stickers.
Would your "stickers" or "decals" be fuel-proof?
(In my understanding, a "decal" must be soaked in water before application and a "sticker" applies more like a piece of Scotch tape)
Pleeeez advise.

Super Dave,
To answer your first question, they would not be fuel/dope proof in and of themselves and to be honest I am not sure any are. They would have to coated in a clear coat, I have used some on a motorcycle tank I painted a while back and they held up excellent when I covered them in clear coat.
If I had some butyrate dope I could test them and see.
About your second question, decals would be a sticker but on very thin clear plastic, stickers would be on white coated paper background like regular stickers, sorry for the confusion.

Ron:
Re-reading John Brodak on applying stickers, he recommends a "flash-coating" of clear buytrate be applied to stickers once in place and that's exactly what is did yet the stickers melted and very quickly into a mess.
What am I doing incorrectly? Or maybe I need to call John again. I believe he owes me a new set of stickers for my Lil Toot bipe.

Re: Stickers and Decals
How much was the dope thinned?
Maybe it was the thinners that eat away at the stickers?
Or maybe there was not enough thinner in the mix!

Re: Stickers and Decals
Maybe a layer of ultra coat clear lite ironed on over the stickers. edge sealing might be tricky,,have to be a very smooth surface.
http://www.hangar-9.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=HANU964
Wonder if the shrink of the ultra coat would draw the stickers into a wrinkly mess?.
Maybe superglue the stickers down, then a coat of iron-on clear.
test and test again.

Super Dave,
I think you should give John a call, especially since things didn't work out as advertized. If for some reason he is unwilling to help let me know. Seems to me that decals and stickers and the like have been applied to models for years without issue.
After reading all your thread discussions on butyrate doping I am going to steer clear of it entirely.
I also think PVPilot has the right idea and should give you no problems. I also believe what I offer will work well with the method he describes.

American Pilots in the RAF
Some while ago we had a discussion going about US pilots who volunteered to fly in the RAF before the US entered the war. Recently a Spitfire which crashed in 1941 into a bog near to my home was rediscovered and excavated. The pilot was a US citizen flying with the RAF, he baled out before the crash, but unfortunately landed over the border in the Irish Republic, and was promptly interned!
The BBC have made a TV series about this, among other WW2 stories from this area, this is the local paper's review of the series......
Eglington airfield, which was his base, is now a small civilian airport, about 7 miles from here, I actually flew from there to Portugal last week!
I thought this story might be of interest to our US members, since it shows how a lot of Americans decided they wanted to help us Limies out, long before their government did!

Admin, et al, can someone please move this post to it's own thread in Off Topic? I have no idea how I came to put this in someone else's thread! I'll put it down to a senior moment!

What a great offer cribbs74. Are you able to do decals of RAAF roundels of varying sizes? You can buy sheets on odd occasions, but they all face the same way. To be correct the kangaroo must face forwards, no matter which side of the aircraft it's on, hence 50% of the roundels are mirror images.

Here you go, if cribbs74 can produce these as decals, or you can print your own onto self adhesive transparent film.
Hope this helps

Here is the first scan of the Combat Kitten decal that I've found, it's not the best quality I'm afraid, but I'm waiting for a better copy to be sent to me

Thanks Wilf! I appreciate the effort involved in sourcing these things. Joe hit me with this same decal last week. My brother in law informed me today that it is coming out grainy when printed. I told him to just do a couple and see how it turns out. I hope you can find one as I haven't had any luck on my end either.
Thanks Again,
Ron

Hey Ron, I'm working on a better copy at the moment. There's a lot of work involved in cleaning it up, it won't be perfect but I hope it will be better than this one. This decal seems to be very difficult to come by, this one is actually a scan off the kit box, but the person who was good enough to send it to me tells me that there were no actual decals in the kit when he bought it.
