Re: "Fancherized" Twister build
Ron and Gus, I didn't see the last two post. I want a $13 twister. Actually 50 bucks isn't bad. Gus, how of you build so dang fast?
Center section is sheeted, leadouts done, and proprietary cigar tube weight box is installed. Here's a photo if the mock up to check pushrod fit:
I purchased custom length carbon pushrods from Tom Morris through stunt hanger hobbies. Might be the best twelve bucks I ever spent. Goals for tonite are monokote and hopefully epoxy wing into the fuse so I can shoot primer tomorrow.

Jim,
You made that Twister look pretty darn good. I hope I can do mine half as nice.
Not that I want to drag this off topic, but I wanted you to see this. SIG Akrobat. I spoke with Ken about it and he said it was a top notch flier.

Yep, full fuse. Cost in 1976 was $24.50
They didn't make a lot of them, but I like the look and if built light they fly very well so I am told. I'll be keeping my eyes open.

Re: "Fancherized" Twister build
You could also just buy a Akromaster kit for $25 and build it full fuse instead of profile.Cribbs74 wrote:JPvelo wrote:Is that a full fuse akrobat? I want one.

Re: "Fancherized" Twister build
True, but the Akrobat is a biggun. 51" span.
I probably should stop looking at kits... I probably have 10-15 that have yet to be built.

That's looking good, Jim, your usual neat and clean work. Darned if we ain't getting sophisticated these days. Custom carbon fiber linkages, tip weight containers that are cooler than anybody's, refrigerators and stoves in the workshops...

Shoot! All I have is a 13" TV, and a washer and dryer in my shop! I have to go upstairs for Dr. Pepper and food.

Second cost of primer, sanded and ready for white. Shot white and put her in the mobile drying booth and forgot to get a photo!

Got the white on and sprayed the first color today, no more pics until paint is done.

Very sleek Jim. Maybe I should attempt something other than base colors. I get a little leery about masking things off.

Re: "Fancherized" Twister build
Thanks Ron. It seems like a great idea until you actually start doing it. It probably took two hours to mask the red. The next color is much simpler and should go faster.Cribbs74 wrote:Very sleek Jim. Maybe I should attempt something other than base colors. I get a little leery about masking things off.

Re: "Fancherized" Twister build
I did some minor masking on the Baby Streak, and then got bolder on the Shoestring with 3 colors and the angled overlaps. First I tried Frog tape, not knowing it had to have only latex to work right and not bleed. Then I got some fairly low tack blue painters tape and it worked great. But when I ran out, I couldn't find the exact same 3M product number and what I have now is too aggressive. It lifted a big patch of Lustrekote clear off my stab. Underneath, thank goodness.
I have learned to get the tape off as soon as you can handle the paint at all, only pulling away from the wet color. Leave it too long and it'll take the new paint with it along the edge. Leave it longer than that and it'll pull the dry color off too. I hate this new blue tape, it's too thin and hard to handle, flips over and sticks to itself, tears on the roll and makes me cuss out loud.

I pull masking off as soon as I'm done spraying. Tape comes off a lot cleaner if you pull it back almost onto itself.

Nice paint scheme, looking forward to see it when done....I can almost see it as just red and white with a Husker logo or two!
Re: "Fancherized" Twister build
That's a very beautiful plane. Do we have to expect other colours than white and red? Blue maybe?

That's about an hours worth of masking. I won't spray until tomorrow. My girlfriend flew to Connecticut on business this morning so it was just me, the tape, the coupons, and the dog after work today.

Ted Fancher said it was awesome?! That's awesome!
Wish I could show Carl Goldberg a picture of my Shoestring. Of course I'd have to hide my Stuntman23.

Sprayed lutrekote over rustoleum, boy did it look nice. Until I peeled it off like Saran Wrap. Guess I'll mask again and shoot rustoleum.
