YUK!

YUK!
This is before moving the freezer, the sander and everything I would need to get to in order to use the shop. It's 98% humidity outside and the fan is blowing.

Re: YUK!
Water runs downhill and hits the block foundation, turns and exits around the corner. In a heavy rain, especially with the fall pecan leaves slowing it, the water creeps in and floods the floor. Usually about once every couple of years. I need to get something to block the water. Right now I have a bunch of new balsa for the Skyray, the speed plane, and the YAK skeleton exposed to the air in there. I'm a little worried about it warping. I'm glad I at least have the YAK fuse sealed. I could haul all that crap into the house, but it's pouring rain.

Re: YUK!
Man Rusty! Sorry to hear that. Later, could you install a French drain system? Dig all the way around the problem area and lay the pipe and cover with rock up to grade.

Rusty:
While it doesn't stop the leak, dig a sump in the floor and install an electric sump pump with an automatic swith which actuates when the water in the sump reaches a predetermined level.
GO SEAHAWKS!!!!!! (I say Saints 13, Seahawks 27.) Rain be damned!
"The separation is in the preparation" sez Russel Wilson (#3)

Re: YUK!
I'm rootin' for the 'hawks as well (Russell Wilson former Wisconsin QB) go Big 10! If I was betting, i'd take points and 'aint's (+9) I think 'hawks will win, but not cover.
Re: YUK!
I'm split on the Hawks and the Ain'ts. Been an on again off again fan ever since Archie. I have a Seattle connection, so I'll probably just watch. The Panthers are the ones I'll be pulling for. At one time or another I think I've pulled for about half the teams out there.
There is some adhesive backed roofing sealer that comes in 4' wide rolls. I think I can roll it out down the length of the back side of the shop and stick it to the sheet metal side, then lay the rest of it on the ground all the way down. The water should run off of that. I have a contractor coming soon to build new doors and replace the wood under the eves. I've already covered the rotted windows with square sheets of Lexan. That's working well, except I forgot to clean the damn windowpanes first.

Re: YUK!
Yep, i'd like to see the Panthers do well too, the coach was close to loosing his job at the start of the season. I meet Ron Rivera at a youth football coaching clinic at Halas Hall when he was coaching with Bears, really cool down to earth, sincere guy.
Re: YUK!
Sorry about the water trouble Rusty. Duke's idea for the French Drain is a good one.. regardless of any other work you have done. You and your Son could do it in 1/2 a day as long as there's no ledge to deal with. If there "is" ledge; then Dave's suggestion for digging a sump at the location where you 1st see seepage when it floods... and installing an automatic sump pump is an option. It's better to stop the water from getting "in" though if possible; where this is a drainage issue rather than a ground-water problem.

Re: YUK!
I can relate with the water...here at my place (well out of any flood plane) I failed to get flood insurance...Ron Cribbs can testify...some times we get way too much in a short time...long story short I have had several shop vacs sucking water up before switching to tile from carpet
French-drain, by son and dad labor, solved the on a slab water ingress to the main house
now to hijack the water problem to the much more important FootBall.... west coast kid, high school in bay area, family tree in USA from Pacific North west..... Go San Fran 49rs!!!! Go Seattle Sea Hawks!!!!
screw you east coast fans (my son is a die hard Steelers Fan)
Cant wait until Oakland gets another ring
Yea Yea Yea in Texas now and NOT the ONLY resident who thinks the Cowboys are crap!
There that should stir some pooo

Re: YUK!
Heck yeah we do. Soil dries up and rain will not soak in. 3" of rain falls in like 1 hour and the water has nowhere to go except to follow the lay of the land. Which right now is my down sloping driveway into my garage.

We lost power today, before the game. Luckily, one of my best friends, from Texas invited us over this morning. He's a HUGE Cowboys fan. We were happy to put up with his attitude, so we could watch the game.

Re: YUK!
Everything in my basement that is important sits of pressure treated 2x4's since I have my own share of water problems. At least the sump pump prevents all out flooding...

Re: YUK!
I used to be a big 49ers fan, but that was before the Carolina expansion. I had forgotten Pete Carrol was the Seahawks coach. He got his ass out of USC when the gett'n was good. He's coached up a damn good team. Looks like the Pats have a smackdown going now.
The fans are running, but I can't leave the shop open over night so it's just recirculating humidity now. I'll get it dried out tomorrow. Meanwhile I brought the airfoil and fuse for the speed plane into the house, as well as the Yak. Been Monokoting the Yak wing on the card table while watching the Pats clobber the Colts.

Re: YUK!
I used to have a old house that leaked like a sieve and also keep stuff off the floor in the basement, had couple inches in there a time or two, so I've been there as well!
