Well, my 1/6oz. tank came in the mail, so I was able to finish locating and installing everything.  Build is pretty much done.  I just need to fill  in the dings and smooth everything out, then paint. From the driver's side, it looks pretty clean:
speed - CEF speed contest Design Discussions - Page 14 DSCN0910_zps05dae5e4

I tried to make it relatively clean from head on:

You can see all the messy bits from this side:

Yes it does. This is getting scary, I hope my simple scrap heap can keep up.

Tested the pain pens today. They washed right off like the fingernail polish.

I guess I'll have to spray some paint into a jar, so I can use a brush for the trim.

I'm trying a new engine mount on Miss Ashley to reduce frontal area.
Trimmed the top off of a horseshoe backplate:

Cut out the fuse like a Tee Dee side mount and sunk the firewall to the doubler:

Great job! That's how I had planned to mount mine initially, but since I cut the backplate down to where the 4 mounting holes were no longer there, I couldn't use mounting screws from the front. I especially like how you inlet the motor mount for the needle valve and the air inlet.

Thank you, I'm planning on putting a intake scoop around the needle to force air into the intake.

Jim, I was also thinking of making a ram intake, only this 180° turn bothers me a bit. What about the wire mesh on the air intake. Does that have a metering function or is just to stop rags an bolts flying in the engine?

Excellent built, very nice.

Removing the screen is the first part of hopping up an engine.

Phil is correct. The screen keeps out dirt, debris, and O2. I remove the screen and drill out the Venturi. The Paul Gibeault article is great. Are you using a intergral tanked engine or a seperate tank?

I've been pondering over how to add ram air too. I would love to rout it to the P-51's scoop under the fuse and maybe have a Tee Dee venturi, but that ain't likely to come to be. I think a short ram aluminum scoop just inboard of the backplate is easier and will look good too.

I have found that the inner protective cap from Right Guard solid anti perspirint will make a perfect scoop lol!
I opened the air channel some more.

I just arranged to drill straight through the mount to allow my engine to breathe better. I feel drawing from a relatively large pool of relatively still air will provide for good performance, at least better than drawing from against a plank.

That's a beautiful plane Jim.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I'll be using a tanked engine, but after reading P. Gibeault's article, I would better change the standard tank for the larger one. Could I otherwise have problems for getting 10 laps + starting and "landing"?
