Hi-vis flight line suggestion
I've found that Cabela's "Prestege" fly line backing makes stumbling over lines lying on the ground much less likely. It's bright lime green and comes in 200 yard spools in varying pound test ratings.
It's braided dacron that makes up into flight lines easily. See Cabela's for more info and pricing. I'm using 30 pound test but in comes in other ratings also.

Dacron you say?
I do like the idea of a high vidibility line, but having used both dacron and Spyderwire/Spectra. I can attest that the latter is a much better line.

That's provided VISION isn't an issue which it is for me so I'll go with something FLOURSCENT green like Cabela's "Prestige" fly line backing.

Re: Hi-vis flight line suggestion
Probably won't help much with the in-the-circle-line-stomping, but I pack along a roll of plastic day-glow surveyors' ribbon if I'm gonna make a day of flying.
Held in place by some cheap wire stakes, I mark out an extended "U" in the grass, with our lines stretched out inside it. It's worked very well for keeping spectators (and the occasional pilot) from dragging planes around by their lines. 'Course, not much can save you from hillbillies and dogs, but you take your best shot....
Agree with Ron...got me some Spiderwire, and never looked back...

Understood. I wonder if Spyderwire comes in flourescent colors? I can only ever find moss green.

Re: Hi-vis flight line suggestion
I thought I make it very clear in my post that I was suggesting high-visibilty dacron implying that it stood out when lying on the ground.
Believe it or not, Ron and Kim, there are people here who have vision problems and I am one of them. Suggest you go lighter on people with handicaps who still love to fly Just be glad that you aren't included in that number BUT that could change in an instant. Consider yourselves "temporarilly able".
I resent that you guys took it as disparaging Spiderwire which may work for you but not for everyone on CECF.

I'm sorry Dave,
I am very aware of your impairment and would never make light of that. I wasn't being negative to Dacron I was just wondering if Spyderwire came in flourescent colors so you could have the best of both worlds.
Again, very sorry if I wrote my post in a way that was condecending. You have been a good friend to me and I wouldn't want to tarnish that.

Kim/Ron:
Apologies accepted. Let that be the end of the matter.
(No, Spiderwire doesn't come in bright colors because fish could be "spooked" by if it were otherwise.) After all it is FISHING line. Duh?

Re: Hi-vis flight line suggestion
My preferred salt water line is fluorescent yellow Dupont Stren. I've had trouble finding it lately. Lots of anglers have told me it spooks the fish, but I still catch just as many as they do. When I'm fishing beside riprap groynes I have to be able to see the line to keep it out of the rocks. Notice the green on my spool in this picture of one of my excursions. Trying not to fall off the riprap:

Best of both worlds
I, like SD am modestly challenged with old age eyes...still OK focusing but I have always been color blind to a small degree...I see in color just not the same shades as "normal" folks
I found SpiderWire Stealth Braid in Hi Vis Yellow...The green or grey disappears to my eyes...even in the air I can not see the stuff...But my Eyes immediatly see the Hi Vis Yellow as somewhat fluorescent
Add a cheap pair of BlueBlocker type sunglasses and wow! everything is vivid
Very Glad AMA recognizes the value of modern lines

Me too. I may switch from steel to the new stuff for my Shoestring and Yak9. You don't have to count loops anymore either. Not with 1/2A panes anyway.fredvon4 wrote:...Very Glad AMA recognizes the value of modern lines

Re: Hi-vis flight line suggestion
What about just taking the line of choice, lay it out, and shoot it with some high vis rattle can paint? If the coat wasn't too heavy, it shouldn't affect the flexibility too much.
Or something similar to what somebody else said, lay out plain ol' white rope parallel to the flying lines. My stooge line is white and sure helps me.

Re: Hi-vis flight line suggestion
The Spiderwire is Teflon coated. The nice thing about it is no matter how twisted the lines get during a flight they don't bind at all. If the paint even sticks to it, I'd be afraid it would introduce friction to twisted up control lines and cause loss of control.
