Folding Pusher Prop.
Just a thought, is there any reason why I can't try and run a 4.7x2.3 folding electric pusher prop on a TD 010. I can see starting being a problem, anything else. Could it damage my beloved engine? I'm thinking of trying it on a Manx Arrow

Re: Folding Pusher Prop.
I'm not going to say it's an impossibility as I've seen many electric props used on some glow engines. In general this just isn't a good practice. The hubs on glow engine props are designed to meet certain parameters. There are pulses on glow engines which probably could be explained as a hammer striking. The pulses are repetitive which in turn can break the hub of the prop. Most electric props have a very narrow hub. I've seen it done, but I've also seen props blow apart not just electric props used in the wrong application. I have one particular engine that requires a even larger hub that APC manufacturers. I believe it's the D-1 hub. APC uses the C-1 hub on their sport props. My engine has thrown blades due to my initial lack of knowledge of the manufacturing differences. APC gave me descriptive prop selection and safety information. I know the TD .010 isn't large, but it does turn up some high rpm's The potential for damage could occur using the recommended prop let alone something experimental. Just keep what I'm suggesting in mind if you try it. I would also suggest safety glasses. Ken

Another thought to consider is the cooling of the little engine. With a pusher set-up, most of the air is blasting out behind the engine, and just generally drawing it around the cylinder and it's cooling fins. You might consider a small heat sink of some kind to help the engine keep it's temperature down, and make sure it's got as much slipstream across it as possible.

Good point I hadn't taken vibration into account. I think I'll give the hub some thought and perhaps design my own and dust off my lathe.

Re: Folding Pusher Prop.
Not a good idea Mike
First, it's overpropped and will strangle an 010
Second, we all know that a tractor prop when it goes bang throws it's bits forward and to the right
so you know where not to stand. The Lord knows where your folding pusher will end up.
Third, you've got that 010 sorted bits wise why risk overheating it as a pusher?
