Does castor go bad? Empty Does castor go bad?

I just got a big Craigslist score from a guy that flew cl combat around 1960: mostly 35s, combat birds, and balsa. But the fellow also had three gallons of castor that had to be 50 years old. Two of the cans are still sealed. The oil in the only can that has been open all these years had darkened, but no funny smells or noticeable lumps.

What do you think? Is the old oil still good?

Thanks

If the price is right, I would get the cans to just put on a shelf. It can go rancid just like other vegetable oils. If its thick, looks cloudy or real dark brown and smells funny, I wouldn't use it. If you can get it for a "could throw it away for that" price, its worth straining into a clear jar to see if it could still be used. Would be interesting to find out how a sealed can of Castor held up over the last 50 years.

Only if it's allowed out in the Hood unsupervised.
