Cox Engine of The Month
TD 049 Helicopter crankshaft?
TD 049 Helicopter crankshaft?
I saw a picture of this crank recently, and was very surprised.
Is there a source for this crank? was it made by cox? or by that 1/2a helicopter company? Is it still possible to get them anywhere?
As far as I understand, a hollow crank pin is stronger than a solid one, so this crank would be an upgrade to any TD 049/051.
Also, anybody have one of these heads:

Thanks for any info.

Re: TD 049 Helicopter crankshaft?
Well, I located that cox cooling head.
Its made by norvel (now NV Engines) and they still sell it for $8.99
Since it fits the norvel 049 and 061, it should fit a cox 049.
Can see it here:

I ordered one to find out.

The heli's were made by "Lite Machines". They show up on ebay sometimes. There are electric versions, also older one with TD engines, and newer ones with Norvel 061 engines. One on ebay right now:

Re: TD 049 Helicopter crankshaft?
Here is another Lite Machines chopper, this one is made of WOOD! I never imagined a heli made of wood, even a 1/2A one:

Lol, looks like they are all wood, I just never noticed since the others were painted.

It was just the center "frame"crutch that was wooden, not the whole heli as some would no doubt derive from this post , just saying to clarify lol
The norvel powered versions should addapt to COX engines pretty simply but I havn`t tried it on mine yet
