Early thin walled cylinder??

Early thin walled cylinder??
Were the early thin walled #2 cylinders ever tapered? I have a stamped #2 thin wall cylinder that I cannot push the piston up past 1/8" TDC and it gets tight as if it were tapered.
Maybe this was a #4 reject for being slightly out of spec and was made into a #2.

Not sure about the taper. It's a good possibility a #4 ended up in the wrong bin before the porting process took place.
On the other hand you would think whoever assembled the engine at the factory would have noticed. Is it possible the cylinder is slightly out of round?

Re: Early thin walled cylinder??
I just checked my early thin wall #2 and it appears to be tapered. The fit gets real tight at TDC and it only goes about 1/8 inch past TDC, not even enough to rise above the glow head threads.

Come to think of it I noticed a real nice tight fit and I couldn't push the piston out of the cylinders of my Space Bug Jr's.

There's also the posibility of some rust or gummy residue in the upper part of the cylinder. That will tighten things up.

Re: Early thin walled cylinder??
hopefully it turns out to just be grime, thats easy to solve, either that, or try using a different piston. I know that my golden bee#6 piston, only likes the piston it came with.
