Re: 010 tether car
Well got in touch with our uk importer for Parma after a lot of phone calls and searching the guy was very very helpful said he has rental chassis and would break one for me !!! Awesome when asked why I wanted a car with no motor or guide flag he seemed very interested in my little project as said before anyone interested in these details for the uk Parma importer pm me as don't think it's fair to make public access to personal details price is good good good the guy is very keen to help and knew what a cox engine was !!! Bonus maybe we can get a few of these cars ordered built and have an international cox/ Parma tether race ( from max laps per minute poss on you tube )
Ado have you got a video yet found a tether anchor ??

Didn't look like my RD200 and that was bought in 1977.
Still have the Haynes manual somewhere. I bought it to replace my second Honda CB200 - I was told it was faster. It wasn't and drank fuel and oil. On a 400 mile return journey, I had to refuel four times and used over a pint of oil. Only kept it 2 months before moving to the RD250 (Bigger tank), then the RD400 (Faster) and then the XS400 (more frugal). I kept the XS400 for 14 years - rebuilt it twice but used it as a "Winter Hack" for 10 of those years. Didn't want salt ruining my current treasured posession!

Re: 010 tether car
Hijack Alert!!!
Good grief Ian that Haynes has my first RD on it.
Bent it after 3 days....
That's when I splashed on FYE 549V.
It started off silver (I think the blue colours are prob still
In Dads loft) wound up Red with gold mags and the
Obligatory Set of microns for that late night/early Morning
Neighbourhood treat.
Then several 250e's a 400dx (Loadsa chases from the Rozzers
On that) and a number of LC's incl the 500.
My real love was CLX 68T or Climax 68 times as the boys called
her. Which was my track X7 proddy racer. Dunno if you remember
The 2 stroke god Terry Beckett? It was he who breathed fire on
It and got me into this tuning monkey business.

Re: 010 tether car
Well not very far yet unfortunately did take the drive wheel tyre off and key it and the hub and put some 24hr epoxy so at last this should stop the balooning tyres !!! Will need to sort out a proper tank though am thinking fill it up let it run for the mo I plan once this is up and running to sell some stuff and buy that Parma 1-24 rental car then I will have a nice base to work on the 16d motor it comes with is good for 16k so am thinking the drive train and belts should be up to it doesn't leave much room for adjusting the ratio though none in fact apart from tyre size which I think is 1-1-8" rears so could go down a bit maybe up not entirely sure the biggest od tyre they have will have to look it up but for now will get this ole contraption up and running see where we are may build another chassis from brass rod for this one yet leta see what they have in my lhs !!!
On another note pm'd admin for a possible category for tether cars in cef but we need more interest to make it worthwhile just an idea tis all
Come on lads dig out and old engine and build a tc !!!

Re: 010 tether car
i liked the idea of being able to change the gear ratios. that was one of the reasons i went for the sprints plus chassis(a womp is the same only wider)
the pinion is a std 16t(48p) from any rc car shop, and the crownwheel is 31t(48p) std slotcar inline drive setup
gives a huge range available.
pinion 11t to 30t?
c/wheel 20t? to 40t?
i am running 1.100"tires.
1/1 gears gives ~158kph@30krpm... 98mph
so am starting with 16/31 50.5mph and will go up or down depending on how it runs

Re: 010 tether car
While the .010 is capable of doing 30K if everything is perfect, keep in mind that's on the tiny 3.125 prop. With the added load off the gearing and road friction it will probably turn less. Just thinking out loud. I could be wrong.

Re: 010 tether car
ron
dont worry i am trying to stay realistic.... thats why i have given myself a large range of gear ratios to play with.
as for power of the 010..
http://www.mh-aerotools.de/airfoils/cox_performance.htm
http://personal.osi.hu/fuzesisz/strc_eng/index.htm
somewhere between 10 and 20 Watts
depending on where you get the information
a few pics from reggy that i have spoken with from rcg
one of his 010 tether cars... ~95mm /rev of crank
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=20054921&postcount=200
and another style of 010 tether car
~40mm/roc... and looks like they couldnt be geared any taller
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=21998084&postcount=252
i am running at only about 45mm/roc
so should be a good starting point
cheers
a
p.s.
i also did some calculating, and the numbers look ok, comparing known elecs i have used in planes helis and cars.
and the size and speed of an 010 powered plane
... but didnt want to look like i have too much time on my hands ... but maybe i do

Re: 010 tether car
Hey a
Looks like you have been doing a lot of research !! Spare time is free which is good !! Even if it's hard to come by
Yes I do think the slot gearing is the way to go on reflection but at the mo am gonna keep going with my "unfinished " hopefully get something finished this year done some body mountings this morning and sanded and made provision for the head can't decide whether to keep the body on semi permanent and build tank with breathers / filler protruding or keep it all nice and smooth
What I have so far ..." alt="" />

Re: 010 tether car
Very good
I'm sure the flywheel will miraculously fall off and find a new home soon
If not check out old hgv discs very heavy maybe too heavy has good results with larger car discs it never budged although with your adjustable gearing and possibility of some very high speed runs you might be right and err on the side of caution

i did some rough calculations
about 60N on the line at 100mph...
so not a lot of force, but cant be too cautious... especially when i keep looking at the prices these engines are getting on fleabay lately!

Too right a runaway could be costly to say the least
then there's all your time and effort Have heard of people using spare wheels as a base before with good results
