Arty105 Cast or extruded ?
How do you tell weather it is a cast or extruded casing. Also how can i tell the age of my motor? Thanks for your help !

do you have a pic of the crankcase that you have?
if it is cast then there should be a mould line down the middle and should have a surface finish this...

this would be one from the nineties and newer
this is an example of an extruded case engine

if this it is an extrusion type that you have, could you describe some of the other features on your engine, like is there a # stamped on the cylinder, and other external and internal features

Cast vs extru.
I do like the vintage look of the cast housings. It reminds me of the old offinhouser and edlebrock intakes of the sixties race cars

I guess it's what you grew up with. The new cast cases are because Cox no longer had the machinery to manufacture the extruded cases.
Btw, i has a offenhouser(sp?) 4 bbl intake on my '62 Impala 2dr htp. when i was a kid, but with a tired old 283 and Powerglide trans. it was far from a race car! lol!
