I found a 10 pound bag of RC car parts
I was cleaning out a closet the other day and found a bunch of RC electric car stuff. A lot of motors, suspension parts, Shock absorbers, tires, wheels, servos, gears and all kinds of stuff I don't recognize. My friend, who gave it to my son, was a millionaire so he always bought quality toys. He died this year so I can't ask him what it all is, and I thought we had donated it all to my son's high school robotics club. But I missed this 10 pound sack of stuff. Maybe I'll spread it out and take some pictures and see if any of you can identify it and maybe want some of it.

Re: I found a 10 pound bag of RC car parts
I did a little nitro RC and some electric a while back, but not much. Some pictures would help.
Re: I found a 10 pound bag of RC car parts
Please by all means post some pics and I'll see if I can't help you identify some of it. And who know, I might even want to buy some it.

Re: I found a 10 pound bag of RC car parts
I'll dump it all out and sort it as well as I can and post some pictures this week.
I wonder if one of those motors would make a good 1/2A starter for those rare times when I wish I had one. I could turn a flashlight into a starter.

I tried that once, but it didn't work at all. You need a very small rubber cone, or something to keep it centered on the prop. Otherwise it just twists all over the place and can break your prop.
Shouldn't be too hard.
Re: I found a 10 pound bag of RC car parts
I can make a rubber cone from Sugru or possibly silicone caulk if it's stiff enough. Or slightly hollow out the backside of a red rubber nose cone like the one on the Satan when we flew it back in June. I'm more concerned with the motor being the right strength and speed. I haven't read any of the labels yet.microflitedude wrote:RknRusty wrote:I'll dump it all out and sort it as well as I can and post some pictures this week.

Re: I found a 10 pound bag of RC car parts
I've seen it done. I used to fly with a guy when I lived in Florida that was into nothing but 1/2a and small electric planes and he made a starter out of an r/c car motor and a 7-cell NiCd pack. Although I'm not sure where he got the starter cone or if he made it himself but it seemed to work well. He housed the motor, switch and battery connector in what looked like a piece of PVC pipe.RknRusty wrote:I can make a rubber cone from Sugru or possibly silicone caulk if it's stiff enough. Re: I found a 10 pound bag of RC car parts
Here's a picture of the stuff I just dumped on the floor. I'll sort it and get better individual pictures later. There are 8 motors, of which I'll keep 2. A couple of servos, packs of linkages, gears, oil, suspension A-arms, and electrical connectors.

Re: I found a 10 pound bag of RC car parts
years ago i made a 1/2a starter with a copper pipe end cap, soldered to a wheel collier, and piece of automotive rubber fuel hose as an insert.
Re: I found a 10 pound bag of RC car parts
This thing turns 30,000 RPM at 7 or so volts. I wonder how 2 D cells at 3v will work. The motor will fit in a D flashlight housing.Mark Boesen wrote:years ago i made a 1/2a starter with a copper pipe end cap, soldered to a wheel collier, and piece of automotive rubber fuel hose as an insert.

Re: I found a 10 pound bag of RC car parts
on your 1/2A starter idea i did this once years back useing a master airscrew 3-1 gear drive and a std 540 type electric moter ...it ran Gr8 for years it would even start a 15 (2.5cc) size useing 6 cell car buggy batt pack as for starter cone i cut up a du bro 1 1/2 spinner (hole in nose for output shaft) wich was treaded i simply added a second nut for locking spinner (nut first then spinner backwords washer an nut inside with epoxy) i had to turn shaft to center spinner correctly but once cured it was perfect i just filled the spinner center with a silercone material to suite prop nuts an the smaller spinners ...since then ive reused said gtear drive in a model boat still going strong

Hey Rusty,
I would try on Ebay. I think the Kyosho Le Mans Electric Engines are valuable in this condition.
