Heard a delegate at the Labour (opposition)
Party conference say on the radio this Morning,-
'"I hope other delegates will demonstrably
Engage with the business agenda"
My Dad used to say "better to keep your mouth
Shut Son and have people think you may be
An idiot than open it and remove the doubt"

What gobbledygook has tickled you guys

Exactly which part of that was English? By the process of elimination, I'm guessing it's Bollox. Whatever that is. Huh...

Colloquial English Rusty with a slight change of spelling to protect the innocent.
Soft fleshy items belonging to both of us and I suspect dangling between the legs most Kentucky Derby winners...

Two of my favorites, especially popular with the self-infatuated in the American business community:

'Quantum leap', to mean a large change or change in magnitude. A quantum leap is the smallest change possible (for an electron's state). I was always tempted when someone advocated a 'quantum leap' during a meeting to ask if they really wanted us to make the smallest change possible.

'Impact' used to imply some great significance to a minor effect. Substituting electric hand dryers for paper towels does not have an 'impact'. If you want to see an impact, visit Meteor Crater in northern Arizona, or shoot a watermelon with a .45 caliber automatic.

Don't worry, you'd be met with glazed eyed stupid.

Haha, excellent examples, both of which I'd like to do.

Then there are the "buzz words" such as PARADIGM which floated around a few years back'

"If you can't impress 'em with intellect baffle 'em with BS."

Nerdly engineer types are good at that. Laughing Very Happy

Your Dad's words in the first post are a close quote of one of my favorites by Abraham Lincoln. "It's better to remain silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"

Liking it Lads
Keep em 'actually' coming in an 'unprecedented' 'iconic' manner.

BTW I was sat behind a coach (bus) recently I laughed when I saw the Company's name IMPACT.

Congratulations, John, you've started an EPIC thread highlighting the modern misuse of language. From tweeners to the under 25 crowd's use of language is an epic fail.
