Cox Engine of The Month
My Ole Pal, The Mud Duck!

My Ole Pal, The Mud Duck!
While digging through more of my stuff, I found this grainy footage from 2001. We were having a big time at the Cairo Airport, and I got in some flights on my big, slow pal, Tom Chipley's Mud Duck!

Lol. I have one of these I got for $20. It is very crooked. We had it all set up and ready to go and then just stripped it again. Just about everything on it is warped. At 2 mins 46 secs of your video the Duck looks photo shopped. The black outline is what does it. That and a shaky camera.
I love the fly bys though. Very nice. What engine are these supposed to fly with?

Wow, that's a big ol fat plane. I could throw a saddle on that and ride my skinny ass around. Nice smooth landings.

Thanks ! Yep...you know me and my Photo-Shopping habits! I've got two types of fly-bys: Slow and Slower !

The engine in the video is my O.S. .91 Four-Stroke. I upped the size to a 1.20, but only got in a few flights before the front left wing-mount broke, and put the Duck into the ground inverted. It was on one of it's low passes when it let-go, and I had just enough time to jam in full "down" before it hit. It's since been rebuilt, and is ready to go again, I just got to get time to do it.
It's foam-board construction IS prone to warping if it's no cared for!
It was the first plane that was able to pack a video camera around for me. Results were OK...but the Duck DEFINITELY didn't like having the camera stuck to it's back !
I thank God for good-natured friends who tolerate my assorted 'idiosyncrasies" ....

Yeah, my goofy brother kept suggesting that I put my pup Gizmo in it and give him a ride....wasn't gonna happen!
It IS about the draggyest plane I've ever flown. For it's size, it's very light and IMMEDIATELY slows down with any throttle reduction. I called it, "Flying with my brakes on" . The only curves on the thing are the wingtips and rudder...even the airfoil is a series of flat creases, bent and glued around ply ribs.
It's a big, goofy, friendly, flying Milk Carton!
