If anyone wants to pay to view it, be my guest. I have paid to view news articles before and most of the time they end up not having anything I was after. I happened to stumble over this article just a little bit ago. It has to do with L.M. Cox and a lawsuit because of a plane and some kid loosing an eye.. Like most big companies I'm sure they have been sued MANY times in the past over things like this. Just thought I would throw it out there.

all: i just purchased another form of flying, wont mention it, but the seller said he didn't want his son to lose an eye. it said right on the box in the auction picture "for children 14+ years only". i wonder how old his kid was because he bought several small diameter things that spin around, as he was selling me his 19inch version for 1/2 price. brand new, flown once. his son hit a flower pot and broke the flower pot.
let this be a warning to those under 14 flying fast whirling things without supervisors present. DON'T. nuff said
happydad on the mend along with Murph for a while. forever
p.s. not from flying, but from not using sunscreen in my far off youth.

Hey Happydad,
Don't know you at all of course, but hope you're getting better quickly. I grew up in South Africa and thinking back on my fairly recent youth (30 now) and how my mother used to encourage us to get out in the sun without any sunblock and how many times my skin ended up peeling as a result it gives me the shivers to think what I've stored up for myself. I have many moles and I can say confidently they are the result of that behavior. I'm naturally fair skinned so what the heck my mum was thinking is anyone's guess but suffice to say she is a Brit and Brit's in general seem to have very little sun sense. At least people these days seem much more educated about the risks.
It ties in nicely with what's being said about the ancient cox lawsuit on this thread. Parents! Must! Be! Responsible! You'd think the little Cox screamers would instill caution naturally just by their volume alone. Compare a loud obviously fast spinning Cox with the quiet electric motors of today and I think it's likely we'll actually see flesh meet prop more often as it's not very intuitive that a quiet electric motor could also be powerful unless you've a bit of experience with them.

We live in a litigious culuture bent on the notion that accidents are someone's fault OTHER than in injured.
One can't help but imagine the possibilities as well as the government regulations intended to keep us "safe". What ever happened to personal responsibility?

There was a company named Phil-Leys (sp?) who made the EZ-Just handles, test stands, etc. A man's family sued them successfully when he got electrocuted by hitting power lines with his steel controllines while using their handle. Their handle's instructions did not remind people to not fly near power lines. The company went out of business.
Someone said that the Golden Rule of modern days is, "Sue unto others before they sue unto you."
Everybody is a victim and noone is responsible.

Yep, that's all it is these days! Sue Sue Sue That's why there are so many regulations today. Erector Sets (I mean the real original ones, not the modern plastic fastener ones) are too dangerous to be sold in the toy department at Target and Walmart. I think that would also be the problem for the Cox engines and planes if Matt and Bernie tried to get them in to stores like such. Oops! I slipped and fell at the grocery store, better call my layer! Or better yet, on the news a few years ago I recall hearing a story about some "trick or treaters" that slipped on a guys icy driveway after the guy gave them candy and sued later. It is nice to keep your sidewalk free from ice but I think it was a blizzard when those kids slipped.

Hmmmm. Lem'me see, now. Fingers just about healed from 3 deep prop cuts from 10 days ago by a .46; CAed my tongue to my lip (don't ask!); CA'ed my shorts to my leg (don't ask!); part of a thumb missing from prop strike; multiple Xacto and razor blade cuts; mental deficiency due to breathing too much butyrate and nitrate fumes; self-esteem destroyed after being berated for years for playing with toy airplanes; and many more (forgotten due to the aforementioned mental deficiency).
Looks like I'm going to be rich; rich I tell ya. No one told me it would be this way -- I was set upon by the big companies with deep pockets. Where's my catalogs --- I've got to figure out how to spend all this money.

Andrew:
You might call that a "flight of fancy". Wait until you see the attorney fees you'll amass.

I saw (and called) all this coming way back in the 70's when Harley Davidson eliminated kick-starters just so sissys could be bikers !!!
