Cox Conquest "RJL"

Cox Conquest "RJL"
Anyone got some info/history on what the Conquest by "RJL' is about. Is this an outgrowth of K&B's involvement? I'm looking at one on Ebay that was sold last week, and has now resurfaced in another auction.
Also, anyone here that's interested in it could post or P.M. me and I'll back off of bidding on it.

Re: Cox Conquest "RJL"
I think the rights were sold to K&B and then to RJL later. I think the RJL has some minor differences compared to the Cox and K&B.
I hope I don't have that backwards...

Re: Cox Conquest "RJL"
I believe RJL made the ABC liners and aluminum pistons for the Conquest when they took over K&B. Before that was a steel cylinder with a cast laped piston. You can see the 2 different liners available on the MECOA website.

Re: Cox Conquest "RJL"
Leisure Dynamics took over Cox in 1970 in reportedly somewhat of a hostile takeover. Cox became a Subsidiary Company along with K&B Manufacturing and others.
Leisure did all sorts of cost cutting measures and various reorganisations including breaking Cox up and sending model manufacturing to Minnesota and leaving Engine production in California.
At some time around 1978 production of the Conquest was handed over to K&B and it became known as the K&B Conquest after 1978. K&B Conquests were stamped with a serial number, had a copper timing adjustment gasket and a gold anodized backplate.
When Leisure went Bankrupt in 1980 K&B went down with Cox and the rest. K&B was purchased back by it's original owner "John Brodbeck" and Cox was purchased back by Bill Selzer, former president and designer of the Babe Bee engine.
Production continued for a number of years under K&B until the engine was sold to MECOA owned by "Randy Linsulato" where it continued on as the RJL Conquest for some time. Obvious developments and modifications have been made like the ABC PL etc.
I hope this helps.

Re: Cox Conquest "RJL"
Hi Warren. That's one engine I'd really like to have. But i guess it's best to leave it to the collectors because I'd run it hard. It's certainly the most handsome badass looking engine Cox ever built.
Thanks for dropping in, I hope all is well down under. Sorry about the impending Winter, hope y'all make it through without getting cabin fever like we do up here in January and February.
Take care,
Rusty

Re: Cox Conquest "RJL"
Hi Rusty
I only have one, a NIB Cox Conquest, but there has been a bit of flurry of people buying them on eBay lately supposedly to use in Goodyear racing... keep and eye out. I got mine in the box a few years back now for $150 which wasnt bad, but not as good as the Super Tigre G15 I scored second hand for only $70 that goes like a rocket ship! It tachs at 25,800 rpm with a 7x4 APC on 10% Nitro! I have it in a Vintage Combat model and it really honks!
Yer Thanks, I do drop in from time to time and throw my 2 cents worth in. Not doing much with the Cox's at the moment. Our Winters are fairly mild here so not much to be afraid of. Coldest overnight temp I've seen in the past few years has been about -1 degrees C. The only time we get cabin fever is when were locked in for a few days due to a big storm over the east coast or a similar catastrophe.
Has Mudhen been on here lately?
Cheers

Re: Cox Conquest "RJL"
There have been a few of the R/C Conquests show up on RC Groups for $75 in the last month. These were lightly used. I got a NIB R/C Conquest for $100 shipped about 2 months ago.
I haven't seen Mudhen post in a while.

Mud's last post was in November. His last login is listed as unknown, so he may have his profile set to hide his login status. I think he reads and doesn't post much. I bet if you PM him you'd get a response. At least he'd probably get an e-mail notification.

Re: Cox Conquest "RJL"
He's ok, I email (pester) him every now and then, I think he's been busy.
I worry sometimes, if we loose him we loose all the minuet (major to me) details of the early Thimble-Drome stuff, that probably only he knows.

Good to hear. Someone recently edited (added a lot of info) to the Cox model engines wikipedia page, but the information was not referenced and criticized some of the existing info so had to be removed... I was wondering if it might have been Mudhen.

Man, you weren't kidding! Big changes on the wikipedia page.
